I wanna love him and I dont (as an on court player). Lot of things in his game that were really bad. Should have red shirted cause he could be very good
I actually think Saunders is a decent enough on-ball defender, but much like Gardner the lack of size he provides in the paint very much cancels that out and then some.
I think this becomes more obvious when you also donât have a defensive wing and anchor rim protector center at the 5. We lacked both. But Saunders with a wing at the 3 and a strong rim protector at the 5 is more than enough.
I mean I get it but think itâs just a matter of not wanting to HAVE to have that lineup in order to make him work. We should be making lineups that have flexibility, not ones that only work if specific circumstances are met.
Plain and simple heâs unfortunately just a 4 in a 3âs body, a tweener in not the way youâd want. Would prefer we go get a forward who has size and a wing who has wing skills and then go from there.
I also think Saunderâs injury that made him miss a few games also caused his play to drop off a little.
I think any healthy lineup has a a long athletic wing at the 3 and a non Blake Buchanan center. I think Saunders is a really good stretch 4 with a good downhill pg in a situation where he doesnât have to feel like he has to chuck because the offense is standing around and no one is doing anything.
When healthy he had his best stretch vs those stretch of games that had 4 NCAA tournament teams. I think he has a lot of value with what Odom wants to do. Saunders does have his short comings, but some if not a lot of them also have to do with the entire situation of this season, mentality and roster wise and what we were asking him to do (and whatever that nagging injury was).
Could be hallucinating but I noticed Tobi Lawal and Nick Boyd following eachother just today (I went back to Boydâs page and it was a new follow).
But I know Kentucky is trying to put together a package for Lawal and Kentucky also has a history of poaching SDSU pgs (Lamont Butler). So it could be a Kentucky team up. But there is a VCU fan who noted an Odom Lawal reunion could be possible. idk
I think of the kids who are in the portal so far, Nick Boyd, Taylor Bol Bowen (who I noticed Kyle Guy follows/Brewster kid which is same alma mater as Vandros and Reuter), and TyRell Ward (Dematha kid) make a lot of sense for what Odom wants to run at least going off VCU.
Updated list. Some have already entered the portal. Some wonât. Of course there will be Odom targets Ive never heard (these just make sense on likely to portal, having good skillsets, being somewhat regional, etc. etc.)
My quick thoughts: Of those who have entered already, Nick Boyd, Taylor Bol Bowen, and Tyrell Ward make A LOT of sense in terms of fit to Odomâs approach at VCU.
Also talked to a Georgetown fans today who said growing consensus fear they might lose one of Epps or Mack to the portal (and that weird out of nowhere Malik Mack to UVA noise) so I put both of them on the list.
