⛹️‍♂️ Thijs De Ridder Official Thread

Did he use his euro earning to rent a cville apartment for a year just for fun

Awesome news, but now we’re waiting on the visa and the NCAA?

Can’t be an official visit… unless he’s been declared eligible, right?

yeah I assume he’s there on his own. And should clarify…there was an “etc” thrown in from the UVA source. Can’t stay until the visa etc is cleared up, meaning NCAA clearance. I think it’s the visa situation that is going to delay actual enrollment, for him and Grünloh, probably until the July summer session.

The only difference between official and unofficial (other than paying for the stay) is that coaches can’t make eye contact on an unofficial… correct?

I’m envisioning de Ridder walking through JPJ like this…

I assume he’s limited from doing anything with the team until actually enrolled right?

If it was an official visit, he could do almost anything. Nothing like that is allowed on an unofficial though. He could shoot around on his own, can’t even have managers rebound for him.

Is it first come first serve for international players? Why are other guys getting cleared and our guys are taking longer?

There was a delayed process wrt academic stuff with De Ridder. That took longer than most of the other euro guys. The visa thing is what it is. It’s just difficult for everyone applying.

Are the odds still in our favor wrt to the Visa situation or no way of knowing

Excited for the radicalization of UVa fans for open borders

Embassies are scheduling student visa interviews again. New guidance regarding online presence screenings were issued.

What’s our international student percentage? Hopefully it’s below 15%.

“Wednesday’s cable says embassies can resume scheduling student visa interviews but that they should do so in a way that accounts for the increased workload that will come with the additional screening efforts. Embassies should prioritize interviewing physicians applying for a “J-1” visa for educational exchange and students looking to “study at a U.S. university where international students constitute 15 percent or less of the total student population” for visa interviews, the cable added.”

It’s just a when thing…nothing to worry about.

About 8.4% from what the google machine tells me. Stands to reason as approx. 68-70% has to be instate so foreign students would have to comprise almost half of out of state students to hit 15%. Not going to be an issue for state schools but probably will hit a lot of private Unis.

Thijs and Malik just followed each other. Presumably they met while TDR was visiting.

I’m really starting to get pumped about this team. As much as I loved CTB, his program had just gone so stale it was hard to be excited about anything the last few years. This feels like we could really have a chance at being relevant again (and that these guys understand what needs to happen to succeed in this era and have a real plan).
