No Kenny Anderson and no John Lucas?
If Len Bias hadn’t tragically died before playing a minute in the NBA, he would have been a bit higher on this list (no way Hanbrough was better than Bias). It seems really tilted to NBA success, but I think it should be based upon the impact they had while they were in the conference (regardless of how their career took off from there).
Wow! I played against 3 of those guys, Heyman, Cunningham, and Chappell. In those days, not many games on tv and none of the constant hype. When asked, I have always said Jeff Mullins was the best I played against but certainly biased towards how these guys actually did against us (since I didn’t see them much otherwise).
It is absolutely sinful to put Hansbrough ahead of Ralph. Thompson is dubious but forgivable because he was such fun to watch play. Putting Jordan ninth gives the authors some credibility by not choosing him higher.
Not at all - look at the second spot - middling role player, and Jordan isn’t in the top 5. In fact, sans number 1, the entirety of the top 5 were middling NBA players, with Christian Laetnner arguably having the best career of them.
That’s fair, that was the only way I could understand the Len Bias ranking as he was better than many of the guys ranked ahead of him.
My biggest (really only) issue with the list is 247’s calling it definitive.
I would say you sir are the authority on such lists
Hansbrough was a great player no doubt. But I would never put him above Ralph
I dont agree wuth some of the rankings but just seeing J.J. Reddick’s name ruined my day. When he was playing at Duke I hated him with a passion. He has a podcast now that I won’t listen to. Laettner wasn’t much better.
J.J. Redick is also the coach of the Lakers now lol not sure if he’s been doing the podcast since
This’ll definitely get me some heat but JJ is one of the very few Dookies I can actually stand to listen to post their playing days. His podcast series with Lebron where they just talked basketball X’s and O’s was fantastic, and at the very least he’s gone on record to acknowledge that he was a massive douche in college and seems to have some amount of humility about him, along with being a pretty well respected guy in the NBA. Still has a little bit of snobbiness that tends to permeate through all of the guys who played under K, but I’ll take him over a Battier or a Bilas or a Laettner.
I am also a Lakers fan and he seems to be a pretty good coach, so am a bit biased (even after we shit the bed in the first round of the playoffs).
That shows you how much I keep up with pro ball but I won’t be pulling for the Lakers
Baby Blake would wipe the floor with Baby Bilas
So hypothetically if this were a top 50 list, who would be the next Hoo after Ralph?
Stith? Lamp? Brogdon?
Barry Parkhill
