UVA at Pittsburgh thread

I feel like that’s been true for Reece the last couple of games. He just seems to be very focused and determined to win, and has taken on an attitude like Jerome always had that he’s going to take the reins offensively and defensively at the crucial points in the game.

Reece!! is turning that corner to yalls points here. I think hes proly a great humble kid that spent his first year trying to fit in and be a good teammate and handling his business. Seems to be breaking through to the other side of “this is my team” albeit respectfully and with lots of deftness

Reece has looked so much more comfortable in terms of knowing how to get offense going for himself coming off of the Blocker-Mover screens. He’s been really patient once he starts driving towards the rim, so he keeps our rolling big man as a live threat that opens his own driving lane. He’s gone from shooting 48% at the rim last year to 61%, which is huge.

Stattmann: Worst on the team on offense, but at least he’s the least best on the team on defense. You should see him practice though.

On Reece:

Caruso is a very interesting comp for Reece. As is Wright, though he was more of a scorer in college than a distributor.

It’s actually a pretty impressive double-double because the roster is filled with other really bad offensive and defensive players

Our guy is in atleast top 10percent of hair game though edging Caruso off the list

But we have 4 games against Duke and Miami. Not like we play them just once each. Splitting those is a TALL task. If we go 1-3 in those 4 we have to go 7-1 in the other 8 to get to 8-4. Just unrealistic for this group any way you slice it.

What Reece is doing while being surrounded by an extremely low number of legitimate three-point threats is really impressive. That said, our guys are good in the mid-range, which is probably where Reece is getting a number of assists, but still. Our spacing is not ideal by any standard. It’s going to be fun to see him with the guys coming in next year.

I would be down for some NIT action. Get this team more experience and have some quasi-meaningful games to watch to close out the season. Way more fun than the season just ending after ACC Tourney

NIT is always fun to watch (I thought the 12-13 games were fun / we had a doozy vs the Hoyas in the early-mid aughts), plus I do better in my pools when the Hoos aren’t there for me to pick too far.

cant beat the NCAA Tourney but going deep in NIT is a lot of fun too. See 1992

Would the Ms play in the NIT?

Here’s the flowchart: Is there a lottery pick forward to guard?

If yes, Taine will see plentiful minutes.

If no, Taine will not see plentiful minutes. Because, of course, he’s not that good at defense.

Make sense? :joy:

So, basically Taine will get to guard Banchero for 20+ minutes. You won’t see him before then or after then.

The side benefit is that everyone gets to say: “See, Taine isn’t good at defense.”

An NIT appearance could be HUGE for launching this team into next year if Taine and Igor actually played in it. The way thing stand now it would really just be a thank you to Kihei.

I hear you and have some similar feelings, but even if none of the Ms played, would still be really good for Reece, Armaan, Kadin, and Jayden, who will probably be back next year. Would love if young guys for some experience too though.

Honestly with the current rotation the biggest thing would be inching Papi and Kadin closer to 1,000 minutes.

Also more abstract but it’s not inconceivable that making the NIT this year could be the difference between having a multi-decade postseason run and not. Something like that could be nice to point to down the line.

Exactly this. Need to get Kadin especially as many minutes as possible

Come on, Tony. Give the people what they want. The streets are hungry for it.
