It was chopper after chopper for a lot of the game. Just beating the ground to death.
Fair enough. Well-hit balls. But loud outs are still outs.
And LOB didn’t hurt us when we were hitting .335 as a team. They kill you when you’re hitting .290 and not getting XBH.
This right here, past the obvious struggles with RISP, is what’s killing us. We had 64 extra base hits in 22 games coming into this one, 2.9 per game. Last year we had 282 in 63 games, 4.5 per game. That’s a big, big difference in power. Our slugging pct is down by around 130 points compared to last year.
I must reiterate this team STINKS
I was skeptical of our rank and I wanted to be wrong… The bats are ass and it seems guys just want launch angles and homers. AB’s suck
Did a quick look at our overall team stats (LINK). I honestly expected our ERA and team batting average to be worse. They weren’t great but pretty average. Runs scored and walks per 9 innings were pretty bad but honestly … the stats just make us seem like a very mediocre squad.
Glass half full … there’s talent there and LOTS of room for improvement. I’m still optimistic.
When I went through the numbers in detail a week or so ago, I found that the squad’s batting average and ERA were mediocre and disappointing, but a long way from being genuinely bad. And I was a little surprised, because it felt like they were doing worse than that.
So I looked at more stats and, unfortunately, the squad’s batting average and ERA, disappointing as they are, are actually their best metrics by a substantial margin. If you drill down into stuff like SLG%, OB% and WHIP, the squad looks dramatically worse in virtually all of them, and the fielding was bad on top of all that. They were like 30th to 40th in BA and ERA, but in SLG% they were like 95th and in OB% they were 110th or something.

We are in fact playing baseball tonight in about 20 minutes, and we are in fact STILL starting Hanson and Didawick at the bottom of the order. At least Teel got moved back to leadoff.
HOOS up 2-0 in the bottom of the 1st with a Henry Godbout two out, two RBI single.
3-2 Stanford now in the middle of the 2nd.
Didawick error in LF allowed the first run to score and then they singled us to death.
Game tied at 3 now in the bottom of the 4th, Didawick RBI single gets the run back from his error.
5-3 HOOS in the bottom of the 5th on a James Nunnallee two out, two RBI double.
6-3 HOOS in the bottom of the 6th as an Aidan Teel RBI double splits the RCF gap. No outs so far in the frame.
7-3 HOOS as Becker follows it up with an RBI triple down the RF line.
Extra base hits with runners on, it’s beautiful!
8-3 HOOS wild pitch scores Becker from 3rd. Still no outs here in the 6th.
10-3 HOOS Chris Arroyo two-run blast into the RF bullpen.
10-4 HOOS in the top of the 7th, Stanford RBI double scores a run from 3rd. Jay is out of the game now, Osinski in and has given up two straight hits after getting the first out.
10-5 on an RBI single. Osinski finding wayyyyy too much of the plate.
11-5 HOOS in the 7th, perfectly executed hit and run followed by a Ford RBI single nets us another run.
11-7 HOOS in the 8th, Stanford scores two runs with two outs.
Ump has absolutely fucked us on strike calls this frame, should have been out of this inning already.
