Virginia already losing in the first inning… just where this team wants them.

Both doubles on balls straight down the middle.

This will be a long series if we’re dipping into a thin bullpen early tonight.

McKay had plenty of success getting ahead in counts that inning, but a common problem for us this year has been putting hitters away. He’s just gotta hit his corners like he did in the last AB against Obee.

Top of the 2nd, Santucci on the mound for Dook. 1B Henry Ford to lead off for the HOOS.

  • Ford works a walk. One on and nobody down for LF Harrison Didawick.
  • Didawick K’s looking. One on and one down for C Jacob Ference.
  • Ford steals 2nd. Throw ended up in CF but Ford collided into the 2B Morris so he wasn’t able to take another base.
  • Ference grounds out to Morris at 2B. Ford moves up a base, runner on 3rd and two down for 2B Henry Godbout.
  • Godbout lines a base hit into LCF. Ford scores, 2-1 Dook. One on and two down for DH Ethan Anderson.
  • Godbout is thrown out trying to steal 2nd. That ends the frame.

Middle of the 2nd, Dook now leads 2-1.

Bottom of the 2nd, McKay on the mound for the HOOS. DH Chase Krewson to lead off for Dook.

  • Krewson flies out to Didawick down the LF line. One down for Morris.
  • Morris on a full count draws a walk. One on and one down for Miller.
  • Miller K’s (4) swinging. One on and two down for Gracia.
  • Morris is caught trying to steal 2nd to end the inning. GREAT throw from Ference.

Heading into the 3rd, Dook leads 2-1.

  • Clark walks on four pitches. One on and nobody down for Winslow.
  • Mound visit for UVA, Ference out for a chat.
  • McKay has started this inning very wild. Almost just hit Winslow in the head with a breaking pitch.

The downfall of this team is the pitching staff!

  • Bravo K’s swinging to end the inning.

Heading into the 7th, Dook leads 8-2.

Heading into the 8th, Dook leads 8-3. We got six outs to work with, let’s at least make it interesting.

Plus our opponent is never really out of it either. More exciting this way.

Top of the 8th, RHP Gabriel Nard takes over on the mound for Dook. PH Anthony Stephan to lead off for the HOOS.

Plain and simple, can’t give up 10 free passes and expect to win a baseball game against a quality team. We’ve played with fire for most of this year and tonight the bats didn’t bail us out.

Gotta be cleaner on the mound tomorrow, and have to string together more hits. Had a lot of groundouts with guys on base.
