I mean that is how the game is going isn’t it? How many post ups does Clint Capela get? And I feel like Capela is a good model for Shedrick or similar rim running bigs

I agree but a big man who can score in the post would be really helpful vs mid majors in the first round. We don’t punish teams when we have a size advantage.

I tend to agree. But I also believe bigs who can post will post. Bit of a chicken and an egg thing. Not saying Kadin needs to camp out on the block for 20secs a possession. But having it as a reliable option would be nice.

Imagine being able to throw the ball into Kadin and he faces up. He’s a threat to hit a short j or pump and take two strong dribbles to the rack and finish with a short hook. That was the ceiling I envisioned for him but don’t think we’ll ever see it

“Why can’t he post” is sort of like “why can’t [player] shoot free throws/shoot threes/shoot off the dribble/shoot floaters,” where it’s a skill that some guys are better at than others to begin with, and some guys improve at it more than others with practice. It’s hard to tell ahead of time who will get better at it with practice. That isn’t just a basketball problem, but a life one too.

On the flip side Kadin was stuck in a cycle.
There were plenty of times where he had position buth Kihei just waived him off. We dont reward development in practice with confidence on the court. It’s a cycle. Kihei looks off Kadin because he doesnt think he’s a reliable post scorer, Kadin becomes less confident in the post, and so on and so forth (being mindful of Kadin’s clumsiness at times).

Yes, let’s blame Kadin’s lack of a post-up game on Kihei, too. Why not? Blame him for everything.
There’s nothing wrong with Kadin’s shooting touch, but he needs to get stronger and improve his footwork to have a reliable low-post game. He also has to become more aggressive. You saw signs of all of that in the last few games, and I hope he continues to grow in those areas, and I really hope he continues to do that at Virginia. Honestly, though, more than the post-up game, I’d love to see him become consistent – and confident – with the 10- to 15-foot face-up jumper. He’s more than capable of that, and it would be a real weapon.

??? Im not blaming him on that. But it is an aspect. Relax lol (I think with message boards we read into other people’s statements but only see what we would mean if we typed those words. A lot gets lost).
Confidence is absolutely a big part of basketball.
It will be interesting to see if we feed Dunn and Bond the ball when they are open at the 3pt line. There are times when Dunn caught the ball and didn’t shoot it but there were times when Dunn was also wide open and Kihei/Reece looked at him and then looked the other way.

While I won’t blame it on Kihei, I do understand @Hooandtrue point. I also don’t blame Kihei or Reece or anyone else for not tossing the ball to Kadin in the post when he has very little track record converting, and even a tendency to get lost in the sauce and turn it over.
That said, the physical limitations; strength, touch, coordination, and the mental; confidence fall on Kadin to to handle and overcome. If he wants his teammates and coaches confidence he has to earn it.

That’s my biggest fear for Dunn, pardon me Dunn stans, if he does not find an offensive game beyond catching lobs the confidence in him will drop. He was left alone on several occasions in the final few games and was looked off, and given his track record I get it.

Why can’t it be “yes and” rather than “either or?” I want Kadin to be a rim runner, but he needs to get stronger so he can finish in traffic. He also needs better coordination and confidence. I also want him to have at least a reliable post game that the Hoos can toss it in to occasionally.

I think he showed some flashes and was always going to be a raw prospect to begin with. His defensive upside makes him a very good player either way, but the BC mid range jumper and game clinching layup against JMU come to mind as exciting plays he made on the other end.
I always take first year offense with a grain of salt given our culture of deference. Think we saw very little of McKneely’s full bag for example and Dunn probably played not to make mistakes on that end
