To answer someone’s question from a couple weeks ago, yes transfers stick around Grounds even after they announce.

Source: just saw one of them

Interested in why you think that? Not being snide, genuinely curious

Isn’t that kind of obvious, since they still have a month of classes and Finals to get through?

I think some some were under the impression that they essentially drop out/withdraw from their classes

Bet you won’t see Dereck Lively around the NC Central campus over the next 45 days though.

For transfers, yeah, totally. I mean, the expectation is that they’re still going to be students wherever they end up going, right? So, getting a bunch of F’s and incompletes this term might be a problem.

For the guys who declare for the draft and stay in it, I suspect its totally different. Some might finish out their classes, but the NBA doesn’t care about grades and they’ll probably be very busy training, working out for teams, etc.

In early May of 2020, in the early days of Covid, I ran into Mamadi Diakite at the Sticks Kebob on Preston. Their take-out systems were still pretty bad at that point and a bunch of us were waiting around for our orders. I asked him how classes had changed under Covid. He said he had no idea, because after he declared in March he was done with school and had been spending all his time training.

Wasn’t he a special case? Meaning in his last year that already had his degree.

Did he graduate? He didn’t have his degree at the end of 2019. I actually don’t know if he did or not eventually, I just know what he told me.

Its kinda funny that he majored in French, which he grew up speaking (along with like 5 other languages). Big Papi majored in Spanish.

Wait. What? Mamadi RS a year, did 4 summers and left without his degree. Unpossible. How did he stay eligible?

Had a good friend major in Spanish at UVA. He was a native speaker. The majors go way beyond what most of us take to complete the foreign language requirement. It’s much more akin to an English literature major.

Oh, sure, my wife double majored in Spanish and… something else, Political science, maybe. Its just funny, sort of feels like cheating.

Didnt they use to have some shit like learning spanish taught in french language?

Yeah I was a German major. Once had to write a 10 page paper in German about a poem that was 8 lines.

Brutal.

Yeah I did Econ and Spanish. It was almost Spanish Culture and Lit. I am a great reader and writer of the language but would not call myself a fluent speaker.
