Misery loves company… that’s my read. Good luck to both of them.
This looks like it’s the source of the ratings:
It’s a little mathematically dubious, as some of the stats included already contribute to other stats including in the ratings, so there’s some double-counting issues that are possible.
This is a reminder, though, that Mike Scott should have been ACC Player of the Year in 2012.
Tyrin Lawrence anyone?
Care to share for us that don’t know what you’re referencing here?
Mac9r posted above - nothing more than that. The implications are pretty straightforward.
Doesn’t seem straightforward to me… The image @mac9r posted has Traudt’s dad being complimentary of Shed and wishes him well
Uncaged, part deux!
Graham doing what he does: making mountains out of molehills.
Edit: *Graham, apologies to Barber.
Graham, but I agree. Dude just wants clicks. I used to share some of his stuff on here that I think was well-written and insightful, but he really fell off.
Isn’t graham the same guy that said Kadin was telling teammates he was heading to duke
Yup dude is a journalistic hack. Shouldn’t even share his content.
Sad to say that both he and Ratcliffe (more sad for the latter) have lost their way in trying to feed the social media beast. I never thought Graham was much more than a sensationalist with limited sources. Ratcliffe on the other hand is somebody I grew up reading and enjoying. He should shift his focus to longer form stuff and stop trying to supply the churn of daily content. He ends up doing none of it very well and it can’t be very profitable. I would absolutely read a once a week scattershooting column. Give up the event coverage.
Yeah, the event stuff is easily covered by others … agree he should focus on deeper articles that require more research and analysis/opinion.
I enjoyed the old Ratcliffe at the Progress. His articles were full of information and always seemed spot on and accurate. Written for the UVA beat but still reasonably objective. Since he’s been on his own, his stuff seems to be less informative, more opinionated, and more often inaccurate. As I recall, he had a Kadin-like breakup at the DP, but I wonder if the editors there weren’t doing a good service by checking his writing and tone and also requiring corroborating sources. Maybe it’s just that the era of social media has brought all journalism down a bunch of notches.
Always just seems to me like those guys are struggling to find a niche in a new and ever-changing landscape. Also, hug an editor, today. Basically, you guys are saying you like editors. So hug one (even better - pay one).
Unfortunately, the economics of the business don’t allow you the luxury of writing only once a week. You need to produce a robust, steady stream of content to attract readers and advertisers.
I don’t think he’s any different than he was at the Progress. He just needs to churn out more content, which means he relies on what’s quickest and easiest.
It’s no different than newspapers that cut staff to the bone, forcing everyone to work harder, which means they wind up doing crappier work. It’s not social media that’s dragging down journalism. It’s cheapness.
And I endorse everything that Haney says about editors.
There’s no way his .com is profitable. If it’s just something to do to keep busy, sure ok.
