Guarding ones and twos I got Reece.

Brogs was great no doubt but Reece brings 3 more things to the table in an elite way. Defensive anticipation, steals, and the ability to block shots 1 thru 5 (Filopowski). In my opinion Reece is the best defensive guard i have ever seen at UVA in my 60 yrs of fandom.

The complete elimination of Taylor and Minsk the last 2 games as well as the erasing of many others before them seals the deal for Reece in my book.

Exactly. The thing that made Malcolm so great was he was a + defender 1-4. The thing that makes Reece great is he is an elite defender 1-2 and very good defender on 3’s

Beekman on his advice to Gertrude: “I just told him there’s always gonna be highs and lows throughout the season and to never get too high. Never get too low, too, just stay with a level head."

Unless it was like, “Elijah, in some smaller gyms or maybe hotel ballrooms, the ceiling is lower than you might realize… so never get too high.” That would be good advice.

I think this is a pretty bad poll. Somehow our loss to Wisconsin hurts us more than teams with multiple losses to Unranked foes. Duke has zero ranked wins (MSU was ranked at the time I guess).

Very surprised to not be back in the top 25 today. Whether we move in over the next couple weeks will entirely depend on what other teams do since we only have buy games, then if we lose to Memphis we’d probably drop out again anyway. First half of ACC play is super soft so not much chance for eye-catching wins outside of that one

The media has not yet bought into this year’s team. It was easy for them to get behind last year’s early run into the top 5/10 given Tony’s history of success and how the team played in Vegas. In hindsight, that was the ceiling for that team.
I actually feel much better today given this team is showing what the right roster construction looks like for UVA basketball: (1) elite athletes with height / length to play the Pack Line and (2) more consistent shooting. We are being ranked closer to our floor right now rather than our ceiling. I am ok with that given all the unknowns coming into the season. It is not where you start but rather where you finish that matters!
