Aztecs are 2 spots ahead of the Hoos in SRS
Iâll simply never understand how Duke keeps doing it. Just totally different treatment than every other program
Aura of big time recruiting wins, year after year. Voters say, âWith all that talent, Dukeâs gonna figure it out.â And give them extra credit accordingly.
JMU looking like theyâll hang around. Super super weak over the next month.
Really only App State would challenge in the Sun Belt. They play them home and away all in January. JMU 35 in NET v App State at 47 (who just knocked off Auburn)
Playing really efficiently for most of the time a team is in game play appears to matter. (Iowa St. is 12th in Torvik taking out preseason proj)
This is the year Iâm going to commit to not caring about the polls, for the following reasons:
- They shouldnât matter for NCAAT selection (not an official team sheet metric).
- We have lots of better and more logically coherent estimates available to us of either how strong a team is or how good a teamâs resume is.
What matters most to me in being in the top 25 is seeing our name on the ticker scrolling through or looking at the Top 25 schedule on the ESPN app. Fewer finger taps to get the info I want.
Lightman was the man.
What jumps out to me: JMU is overrated but rising to the level theyâll need to drop multiple games against weak opponents to drop out. Theyâre ranked ahead of Duke, which is fucking hilarious.
Wisconsin underrated.
Glad Clemson is ranked. We should be 23-25 but 26 and on the cusp is fine. Can win our buy games and drift up the rankings as teams above us eventually lose.
NET ranking is ok not great. Would rather fly under the radar with a tournament quality CV, vs get overrated and have the weight of 3-4 seed on a young team.
This is what I was trying to say in the game thread. Winning by 34 instead of 22 matters to your NET. Itâs stupid but it is what it is.
It matters but by the end of the season that difference will be very, very small.
LRA Forum Hot Take for discussion purposes:
Is Rohde better than Taine? Iâm not so sure. His stats arenât, and donât forget Rohde leads our team in minutes. Have a look:
And donât forget that Taine has a rugby background and is heralded by the coaches for his toughness. We could use a little more of that IMO. I would also point to the Iowa game two years ago where he was the best player on the floor that game. Opportunity is important.
Letâs discuss!
I feel the same about our ranking on kenpom and torvik. I want us to be good enough that I donât have to scroll down.
I mean it might be potentially worth a discussion in games we run B/M but in this âoutside triangleâ weâve run the last two games itâs not even a conversation. Rohdeâs ball handling is essential to the offense and Taine doesnât have PG skills
Totally agree his ball-handling is better. But Rohde is a wing, not a PG. And with the semi-emergence of Elijah, not sure we need him to handle too much. Bond may be a better discussion but he isnât a perfect fit for the debate either. Just feel like Taine is a tough kid who has played well when given extended minutes.
Watching Rohde play in person â and I had a really good view of him at the A&M game â he is an integral part of the offense and how it flows. His passing was excellent, ballhandling very good, and made good decisions including when to pass or be aggressive finding his shot. I was skeptical going in, kind of wondering why TB has played him so much, but after viewing his role in the offense it is really clear to me why TB has placed so much trust in him.
Love Taine and would like to see him play some good minutes for us, but he does not bring the intangibles that Rohde does, imo.
Good points. I havenât seen a game in person this year and I get that those things stand out more when you are at a game. And I have no view into what goes on in practice. Just generating discussion after looking at a small sample set of stats.
Agree with all points. Rhode is going to be a great player for us, and I mean this year. I have been pleasantly surprised at how good a defender he has been thus far too.
