🏈 UVa Football Preseason 24

Put a tiki bar on the pool deck. Now you’re on to something. The Olympics aren’t for another 4 years, they don’t need all that space.

Wish I could VPN to sports bet from overseas smh

I am so bad at basketball especially college it’s almost comical. NBA I can be decent but it’s not pretty. NFL, I’m actually good at, I just don’t care enough about NFL football to truly enjoy putting in the effort. But sometimes you gotta chase on a Sunday after a rough Saturday.

Yeah, for some reason just have a knack for college hoops…if I went back in my FanDuel app I probably hit 60-70% of my bets there last season. NFL I know because I play multiple fantasy leagues with pots usually north of $1K prize, and could give you the 2 deep of just about every team (at least offense) in the league.

NBA I’m really bad at. I usually parlay multiple games and my downfall is when bad teams beat good teams…usually because of “load management” and stars sitting out. I’ll play some college football but just don’t follow it close enough to be consistently good.

Looks like here’s the official announcement

“Access to the Hill will be limited to UVA students, VAF membership card holders, season ticket holders, mini-plan ticket holders, Cavman’s Crew (8th grade and under) and designated groups on a per-game basis.”

Reading through it it doesn’t seem as bad as I initially thought.

With orange and blue glasses that reads more as keep opposing fans off the hill.

It’s not great for logistics but may also not be as big a deal.

As I’ve said elsewhere, I can’t name another stadium that gives rival fans that kind of unfettered access to the sideline for nothing more than the price of the cheapest nosebleed ticket. I love the Hill, but that doesn’t outweigh the degree to which I hate that we give Hokies free reign to loudly crowd the endzone.

Exactly the VT game is the only time that’s a thing and I agree, with keeping them away from the field as much as possible.

I fondly remember punching my way through there during the 03 game… (I can say that now right?)

Not as bad as initially thought, but still not a fan of it. I understand you don’t want opposing fans rushing the field, but if that’s the case then maybe have security actually do their job instead of acting like a turnstile.

I think you’re vastly overrating what a bunch of $10/hr glorified ushers are able and willing to do, whether because they’re not trying to get hurt, or not get sued, or not go viral for getting videotaped using “excessive force”.

Real question. If a fight broke out you might have to be a Hokiie for a day?

All I know is, if you’re a Hokie and you show up in Scott stadium and then refuse to move when I say excuse me because I’m walking down the hill. Then that’s your ass.

If RMC are truly that useless then how are they expected to actually enforce this in the first place? I get it, you’re not gonna start tasering a bunch of college kids and have us make national headlines but there has to be some kind of enforcement past ‘stand there and look intimidating’ if you’re actually worried about opposing fans storming your field. Or better yet, none of this becomes an issue if you start winning games against in-state rivals on your home field.

Idk, I do get the reasoning to an extent and at the very least it makes significantly more sense now than when it seemed like it was strictly students being allowed on the hill. Am just not happy about a good chunk of our fanbase being restricted from something, regardless of if it’s for security measures or not.

I don’t love it, but I’ll also say, it has been an absolute embarrassment to have our field rushed like that by our rivals twice. It’s just something that can’t happen to a self-respecting program. And yes, you are right that we should try just winning the game, ha, but still, that can’t happen again. If we’re trying to be even semi-respected, we can’t look that bad on national TV, especially when recruits and folks in the state might actually be watching our game for once.

I personally hope they barely enforce this in any way except for the VT weekend. That would make sense to me. You have the policies on paper so you can point to them that week but barely care the rest of the time.

RMC is there to stop lone rushers… streakers, wannabe viral influencers, drunks, etc. They’re not there to stop a concentrated mass of 1,000 end of game field rushers.

Fully agree with this, if they have the policy just to use in their back pocket for VT but loosely enforce it every other game that would be ideal.

I believe we are outside the statute of limitations

so… everyone but opposing fans is how I’m reading that

Pretty much if you can show you have some tie to the program or season tickets etc. you’re fine. I can’t imagine it’s going to be a strict check to get in there (thinking about how it works with after market tickets).
