Ok @haney might. His first name is Timothy it seems
I understand what the ideal players are BUT this doesnât address why we have been so successful- since TB arrived which is the defense.
Those types of players you mentioned are decent offensively but I think if we had our choice of players that are offensively talented versus defensively talented- our success has been based on snuffing out the opponents offense.
So with that said, as a foundational pieces we need the athletes and capable defenders with a talent like DeâAndre Hunter sprinkled on top.
The reason why I separate the type of players into offense versus defense is because we havenât landed the players that have been both offensively talented and supremely talented defensively since Hunter⌠So I would consider Hunter an outlier and get back to Darion, Akil, Isaiah Wilkins, Jack Salt whom were all defenders.
I totally get what youâre saying and agree with it. The disconnect is that players like Akil and Darion etc now would be London Jemison today. Theyâre wing forwards who have grown up playing that way. Theyâre still trying to get the same thingâŚitâs just the game and players are different now.
Ohhhh wow- mind blown! Thanks for this insight! I hadnât thought about it that way.
Any metric that has Houston, us, VT, and Louisville in the top 5 must be wild.
Crazy that we are still even close to the bubble (thought we would be ways away) according to âProphetâ Lundardi
With the âbyeâ during the week, this seems to me like it would be a good time for the staff to really dig in to a self scout, especially considering our struggles of late.
Do we see lineup/rotation changes? Rohde comes off the bench? Increased role for Minor?
Do we see schematic tweaks on either side of the ball?
Or do we come out having gotten better at what we already do? Or are we the same?
So curious to find out!
All I know is itâs a major red flag to me if we get blown out again on saturday
Honestly, I have been hopng for this for several games now; alas, things are essentially the same. The âwait for the guys to figure it outâ philosophy appears to be prevailing. I am very open to being surprised though!
I think the team can get incrementally better this season, but not a lot better. The people with the right skill sets and physical tools just arenât there. We donât have guys that can provide the points in tough spots and thereâs no immediate solution to being a donut team.
I think the post situation will be better next season with the development of the first years, but still concerned about having too many Robins and no Batman.
My thought is they donât have as much time to self scout, and there maybe wasnât the concern when we had the previous long breaks that there is now. Wednesday-Saturday-Wednesday-Saturday with travel doesnât provide the time to check in on yourself as you are prepping for the next team. With a week off, you can spend 3 full days on you, and still have 2 full days for the opponent.
Weâve lost to one for sure non-tourney team (Notre Dame) and that was on the road so not a killer. Wiscy and Memphis are top 15 teams and State College is gonna be a tourney team IMO. Iâm not surprised we are on the bubble. Just hope we stay in the conversation all year long if not lock ourselves back in it.
Compared to what? Compared to crumbling and getting blown out at Notre Dame? Or compared to beating Florida and A&M?
I have a hard time even knowing what getting better means on balance given how black and white weâve looked this season.
How our previous opponents look is a bit of a distraction in terms of the real factor for us making the tourney.
Fundamentally, we either start clicking and show any semblance of resilience against teams on the road and we get in, or we donât and we are out. I think we need to stop having full mental collapses within the next two games. It feels that cut and dry to me honestly. This team can easily be a tourney team if we string what weâve seen together in a continuous performance.
Worried about this too as it pertains to this year. I think if we maximize our talents this is still a team that could sneak into the tourney but not something Iâd bank on.
The bigger thing for me will be seeing incremental improvements from McKneely, Rohde, Bond, Gertrude, and Buchanan. Thatâs the core of next yearâs team.
More competitive in road games would be the measure based on the season so far. Able to better deal with adversity on offense.
Knowing this is the opposite of how Tony operates, Iâd really like to see him commit to Gertrude and Buchanan getting a lot of PT the rest of the season. Bond as well. Wonât happen, but I think they have the best chances of raising the ceiling.
This is where I am. We can execute a bit better and more continuously for sure (practice + game reps) but a meaningful part of it is not fixable this season. We need strength, experience, and talent infusions in certain spots.
Buchanan started last game and has been getting consistent run despite his struggles. But Iâm fine living with that because I think it will pay dividends next year.
Need Gertrude and Bond to get run in games that arenât already decided.
A & M now 9-6 ⌠Taylor went 2/16 against Auburn.
Florida is 10-4 - tough schedule coming up - at Ole Miss, Arkansas, at Tennessee and more - good chance after their next 9 games theyâll be 13-10 overall.
