I feel a little bad for piling on him but Kody probably doesn’t start for 0-10 Farleigh Dickinson and he’s in our top 7. Would love to have Tony explain that to me. Time to let the damn kids play
And Papi
Still confusing to me, since I’m fairly certain Tonys goal for his 8 man rotation was not “hold the worst team on D-1 under 20” because that would be an absurd goal.
It’s specifically Kody’s run that’s hard to take. The unglamorous things that allegedly earn you minutes at Virginia are also lacking from his game. He definitely gets scored on with seeming ease. He doesn’t rebound well; he’s not a ball handler. Malachi, I get: he plays D with an edge, and he seems to rebound/block out consistently. I feel bad typing this about a college player who’s trying his best, but being good at basketball isn’t a super hard thing to spot, even if Tony sometimes sees things in players others miss.
There is no defensible basketball reason to have Kody over Taine and Igor in the rotation. He’s not even playing the defense soundly.
I want to see Malachi contribute offensively with the starters. Taine and Igor have shown that.
Malachi can shoot. But he needs more confidence.
They scored 17 points in the first part of the second half against the starters. I wouldnt chalk up 17 in the first half to exceptional defense,
Good but not exceptional.
Iowa scored 30 on UVA with Taine playing the bull of the minutes in the second… but they scored 44. Coincidence?
Coupled with the fact Taine plays hard and tries to do the dirty things it really makes the decision more perplexing. Like the only thing Taine is lacking is a couple trips around the sun.
Awww I was a legend in my own mind. Mess around and got a triple double
I think he has the confidence. he just needs to be assertive and find his voice
Ok then I’ll be the dick. Me and Malachi have a lot in common. Neither one of us are ACC players.
Igor and Taine work at it. Carson just doesn’t have the lateral quickness. He is a very large defensive liability - now, when his 3 is falling like that he may get a few minutes. If he stays, he will have to work his butt off to transform his body to be an above replacement value 8th man in the ACC.
Personally I don’t mind Malachi getting minutes. It’s Kody that is a head scratcher. If Kody was hitting shots, I would get it but he’s not.
This is not your 1980s-90s ACC my man
Kody didn’t have a knee brace on today. Moved better than previously and took two pretty good shots from 3. I don’t think he’s a quality 7th man right now, but again, we may find ourselves with Kadin and Caffaro in foul trouble and we will need him.
Well that’s true. I should be more charitable. For me, this is about Tony not Malachi.
If the concern with 3M is: “We’re going to lose games because of their defense”, we’re equally gonna lose games because we lack their offense. Play them, they will get better on defense over the season.
Sure but he shouldn’t be taking minutes from Taine or Igor. He should come in and spell Caffaro and Shedrick if that was the case.
I don’t know… think Igor or Taine are more productive on the floor.
For me this game confused me more about this team than it shed any light on this team
Bennett just gave an explanation why the kids aren’t getting consistent minutes. It was asked in the PC. And it had nothing to do with Kihei contrary to what some wanna believe. And yes, that’s me being nothing more than a smart ass.
I guess people can accept it or just check out for the season. Whether I agree or not, nothing I can do about it. The program was built a certain way and certain things aren’t changing anytime soon. To bitch and moan about it is a total waste of time.
