“Well? We’re waiting.”

They’ll release the video later but betting on “defense, practice, figure out the little things”

if I’m not mistaken, they gave the backup 4 minutes to Shedrick, which sorta cuts out Milicic. I would assume that is TB’s reaction to their allowing too many offensive rebounds. Not sure that’s a workable solution though when a big problem has been Kadin’s inability to stay out of foul trouble.

The guard part of it is more interesting. I would guess that’s about the offensive end. Taine isn’t nearly as sure with the ball as those guys. That was what kept him off the court early in the season. Kody has always been a low volume and low turnover guy, I call him a do no harm player. And Malachi hasn’t committed a turnover his career 43 + how many ever tonight minutes.

thats one way to look at it…but they aren’t going to win, grow or learn with this approach.

Yeah, on the guard thing that makes sense. It just doesn’t fit with this team that fails to generate points. You can’t add another passive shooter to a team that struggles to score. It’s where I wish we had Penny or someone on staff to talk Tony down.

Like that approach worked with Kihei when he was literally the worst offensive player in the entire ACC by some advanced metric his first year. But only because he was surrounded by shooters and talent. It won’t work with this team.

Since Tony Bennett is such a quote guy: Ships are most safe in harbor but that’s not what ships are for. Someone should pass that along to him re:thinking Kody over Taine helps the offense.

Dont think Kody is a do-no-harm player. Hes getting cooked by FDU level guards on the defensive end and pump faking open 3s, letting the other team crowd Jayden. .

It’s also Fair Dick if there was ever time to let the news guys play through some things in semi competitive minutes it’s this

I find this thread very disappointing and at times aggravating. CTB has been the best coach in the ACC for the last decade and the best basketball coach we’ve ever had. He has won a national championship and beyond basketball performance, his values and character make me proud.

Bennett is the one who has brought UVa basketball back into the national picture after a long period of mediocrity. To talk about CTB being gone or past his prime based largely on a season or two that have crazy because of Covid is just absurd. This may be the weakest team UVa has had in CTB’s tenure but Covid particularly hurt CTB’s approach to recruiting.

Like most of you, I’d prefer to see Igor, Taine and Carson get more playing time. I’ve wondered about Poindexter, too, for example, but he played well today both offensively and defensively.

Bottom line: I trust CTB based on a decade of excellence and I find it appalling that fans are suggesting CTB should leave or is past his prime based solely on a season and a half of weaker than average UVa teams and his substitution patterns.

We have a ton of talent coming next year and it will be one of the best classes in the country if London enters next year, too. And I’m also confident that CTB will not let Igor and Taine ride the bench all season while the team struggles. This isn’t going to be UVa’s year, but the future is bright due both to the potential of the 2022 class and on CTB’s coaching (as well as Williford, Getter, etc.).

No one is perfect though. And I think you can be critical of things you love. Just because you have issue with something doesn’t mean you oppose or hate it. No one if free from criticism, and I dont think what Tony has accomplished is lost on anyone who has been critical of the rotations today.

From the postgame interview, you can see it in his face that Tony really does want to play Igor and Taine more but really also grimmaces at the thought of compromising, citing that there can’t be that defensive “drop off”, especially when we need that defensive identity. Igor and Taine can give us an offensive lift but not so much that we are an offensive power/still need to be a defensive identity team. Makes those rigid 8 man rotation remarks much less serious/opportunity is there for Taine and Igor to be heavy players in the season. Which gives me a sigh of relief.

Link? Haven’t read every post.

Just folks venting. The rest of your comments seem to indicate you understand perfectly well why folks are venting. Tony is a likely HOFer but he’s also a human being.

None. There are some wondering why Tony has lost his fastball, but none I have seen saying he can’t get it back (unlike an actual fastball).

We were at almost 1.4 points per possession and held FDU to under 0.8. Igor, Carson and Taine got 12, 11, 8 minutes respectively. Poindexter got 14 and Kody got 16. We won by 33. We scored 48 in the second half, with the starters sitting from the 15 minute mark. All in all, we actually took care of business for a change. I ain’t bitching tonight. Offensive rebounds were the only real problem (we gave up 15). That had to have CTB apoplectic.

It would be great if after the typical end-of-year transfer dust clears up at the end of the season our starting line-up next year was Kihei, Poindexter, Franklin, Stattmann, and Caffaro with maybe a transfer from Northwestern and a new walk-on rounding out a seven man rotation. This board would collapse inward on itself and form a black hole that eviscerated our entire galaxy, and I would enjoy the hell out of it.

Again, Taine definitely, Igor has more trouble because he slides to the 4/5 so he has a lot more to cover. I think Carson is a net negative on D. He has trouble getting his shot off against better competition and he is a blow by on D.

I used to feel this way too but now I want tony fired because we only beat a bad team by thirty something and I’m mad about what dudes get what minutes. If tony were really a good coach the right dudes would be getting the right minutes but clearly that is not the case. He has to go. The game has passed him by. So obvious.

I also think Tony wanted the starters to get some continuous time to shake the rust off after the exam hiatus so that maybe why we didn’t see as much substitution in the first half.
