UVA vs Wisconsin (Ft Myers) Monday 11/20 6pm EST FS1

See you there @UVApride7! Looking for 1-2 extras for Monday if you come across any.

My own personal experience with a high ankle sprain gives me hope that this is not what iMac has. But the boot gives me pause. And the recovery time for a high ankle sprain can vary widely from a couple of weeks to 8 or 10 weeks depending on the severity.

When I sprained mine, I could barely put weight on it on the flat and could not climb or descend stairs at all. It wasn’t all that painful, I just had no strength in the ankle. But mine was severe enough to require surgery.

For less severe cases, the treatment is—a boot. Hopefully, iMac being young and strong, his can recover a lot more quickly than a broken-down old man like me—whether it’s a high-ankle or lateral sprain.

I endorse everything the Captain said. I’ve had high ankle sprains and low ankle sprains. I was on crutches with the high ankle sprain. I couldn’t walk, and the doctors didn’t want to even let me try. Took me about a month to get back close to normal – and “normal” for me was not particularly athletic.

I didn’t have a boot with the low ankle sprains, but I’m also not a basketball player trying to play again quickly. The boot is precautionary – basically a more extreme form of wrapping the ankle. You just want to immobilize it to let it heal. It doesn’t necessarily tell you how severe the injury is, or how long the recovery will be.

I would be surprised if iMac is out for an extended period. But I’d also be surprised if he plays this week. Maybe he would at a different point in the season, when the stakes are higher. I think Virginia is going to look at the big picture and play it conservatively.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in the boot. We put a boot on everything.

This reminds me of the Nate Bargatze bit about his church basketball league, played on carpet

I played in a league once that used a carpeted gym. I guess it was the basketball version of AstroTurf. Dribbling was weird, and I was covered in rug burns.

My elementary school in the 80s had a carpeted gym.

My kids’ elementary school gym was carpeted. Never quite figured that one out.
