Yea i remember that game all too well drove down for it. Seriously made me question the entire CTB experience
Thought about it some more. Still very excited about this team and think a wake up game like this against a very cohesive and experienced team will help long run.
SMU and WVU look like the teams we can âget rightâ against. I will not be all sunshine and rainbows if we lose that game
Do I ever agree with this post. Seemed so many time he was in a position to get off a good shot, some even just foul line extended, and he wasnât really looking for it. Appears to be a lack of confidence thing (maybe itâs well-founded?) but he needs to step it up if we are going anywhere. Tony keeps putting him out there, so he must believe he has the ability.
Before the season we/I said that Nov/Dec could be inconsistent with some bad and good until everyone figured out their roles. Still believe that. Probably got another annoying loss or two and probably another good win or two before January.
We are 5 games into a 30+ game season. It is a marathon not a sprint.
There are some legit concerns: rebounding, defense against good teams, inconsistent shooting.
But I do think things that can be figured out or worked to mitigate. If the shots are falling tonight that also mitigates the rebounding disadvantage. Would have been similar to the UF game.
We will bounce back, but Wednesday game coudl be ugly too. Just get the W.
This.
I wasnât on the forums during the game, Iâm now reading through comments after. I was going to wait to post until I got to the end, but this encapsulated it perfectly.
Itâs one game, and we KNEW the team was going to lose games it should have won especially early on. And losing games you should have won, doesnât always mean narrow, well played games against teams playing out of their minds. You SHOULD lose those occasionally even if youâre a well-oiled machine.
No, being a young team still gelling means sometimes you get obliterated. Iâm not saying everything is fine, rebounding is obviously a problem. But itâs closer to an expected result than a disaster.
I think my least favorite genre of UVa Twitter right now are the tweets complaining about people complaining. Just donât give them a platform.
Some âknewâ (but hoped against that âknowledgeâ) that we would lose some games against better competition. Of course anybody that had such âknowledgeâ was relentlessly shouted down by the militant optimist camp. But this game, to me, far from the militant optimist, was far worse than an âexpected result.â We were bad tonight against a not good team. We got absolutely smoked. Itâs just one game, of course, but get me to the acc schedule so I can feel good again.
Are you sure they arenât good? I think they could be a 6/7 seed
Letâs not forget CTB asked us to be patient with this team at the B/W scrimmage. I took that to mean he really thinks this team will improve as the season goes on. A 24-point L is not in any way acceptable, but perhaps we just looked a bit ahead of schedule through the first few games. Might need some adversity to really find and make those improvements
Yes, the team got smoked, but Bucky isnât a bad team. They arenât a great team, but theyâre a pretty good team. Prior to this game (which helped their rating a LOT) KenPom thought they were the #5 team in the B1G.
Edit - The season has gone better than expected so far, so we kinda forgot bumps were in order. This is almost certainly a worse team than the '21 team (at least to start the season), and that team lost to San Francisco. S**t happens.
No. Iâm not sure of anything at this point of the season, or ever. They looked great against us, but they also have 2 losses. They arenât great, I guess, and they embarrassed us. Just one game. Not a good one.
Yeah the beauty of a game like this is that it might, at the most, impact our NET and metrics from a 20 to 22 due to the 30+ game season.
But it absolutely serves as a wake up call to the guys that they got their asses kicked.
If Wisconsin gets the same amount of shots UVa does they score 49 points.
Rebounding will determine this season completely unless the Hoos consistently pressure the ball and play passing lanes and create live ball turnovers.
Rebounding (assuming you have multiple 6 8 dudes on the court) is 80% coaching so Iâm optimistic.
Now this is agree with. Rebounding is beyond bad, its verging on absolute disaster. And not just this game. Florida punked us on the boards and even Texas Southern marginally outrebounded us. THAT is something CTB needs to fix, badly.
We are 1-1 vs real programs. A narrow (edit: neutral site; I had originally said home) win and a blowout neutral site loss. My expectations were not high, but I struggle to describe our results as better than expected.
Oh, I meant prior to this game the season had gone better than I expected. Weâd gone 1-0 vs real teams and had consistently been blowing out the bad teams (which history suggests isnât quite as trivial as weâd like to think).
Now, the season is going about as I expected. Maybe slightly worse, but thatâs probably more because Iâm still depressed about the game rather than because its actually fair.
If you strain hard enough you can hear the basketball operations team saying idgaf about giving reporters a microphone so you can hear questions for ten years straight at road games
Aw fuck me WVU lost. So we get Jesse Edwards instead of small ball
Bad match up you think?
