Usually Tony being so positive after a loss makes me feel better. This time I find it disconcerting. Hopefully it’s just because he feels weird playing Wisconsin but I hope he’s not actually as okay with that effort as he comes across in the presser
He hates losing worse than we do. Especially when dominated physically. He is not going to be ok with this I don’t think but I am not sure of the solution either.
Yea you hit on why it worries me. Usually he hates losing and you can see it on his face even when his words are positive. Seems this was more of a ‘well, what can you do about it ’ kind of reaction. Hopefully just the weirdness of playing Wisconsin but would’ve felt better if he gave one of his ‘we can’t fix everything but we can control effort (or maybe intensity is the better word) and we’ll fix that aspect’ type of answers
Jesse Edwards had 10 and 7 rebounds in our two games against ‘Cuse last year. I’ll set the line for Wednesday’s game at O/U 12.5 rebounds. What would you take?
Yeah I was expecting to see a little more fire
Burn the redshirts and let Elijah play with two NBA first rounders for a year and let him develop. Since Tony refuses to actually play his heralded freshman, better get used to bringing in these scrub transfers year after year after year.
I’m supposed to believe Andrew Rohde is a net gain over Elijah? BS. Bond should be playing over Rohde every night. This isn’t 1995, unless Elijah’s knee is totally screwed he should be playing.
48-21 rebounding difference. Wisconsin with 20 offensive rebounds
LMAO thats ATROCIOUS
It’s pretty absurd that out of approximately 1500 new NCAA Division I basketball recruits every year, we can’t get a single one over 6’9 to play for an ACC powerhouse 5 years off a national title. We have to play mid-major small ball all season. How did this staff not sign a capable DII/DIII big body to just fill space after Shed/Isaac transferred?
By all account Anthony Robinson is …mid… so just burn his redshirt to get some boards. I really don’t understand the thinking here.
We landed two though. Robinson and Buchanan. And a 3rd on the way in Cofie. We’ll be much bigger next season even if Dunn gets taken by the nba due to potential and defensive production alone.
As to this year, so far Minor is looking like a big eval miss (tbd if he gets adjusted and therefore can give us more by ACC play). Groves probably wasn’t the best floor spacer in the portal for the front court but we did need to add that dimension to our team so that addition makes sense.
Buchanan, while awesome, is barely 6’9. Jake Groves is just a wing…not sure what he is. but he definitely is not an interior big.
For all the analyzing … a lot of things could have been covered over in this game with just decent rebounding. When you give up 20 offensive rebounds thats the equivalent of giving the opposition 20 extra shots. Thats very hard to overcome and its those 20 extra shots that allowed Wisconsin to smoke us. Fixing our rebounding will be the key to the season.
Why is our rebounding so bad?
Dunn is a very good, if not elite, rebounder. Reece isn’t bad. iMac isn’t bad. Until tonight, we said Buchanan had a nose for the ball.
What are we missing compared to last year? BVP and Jayden …? Franklin was a good rebounding guard but not that much better.
Rebounding is part coaching, but at this level it’s more personnel.
We are physically overwhelmed last night. I was sitting courtside and Wisconsin was not noticeably taller. The issue was that they seemed much stronger and Blake seemed out of position / lost on some of the possessions. We were not creating any separation with our screens and did not seem capable of defending the top of the key dribble handoff. Unfortunately without a Papi sized body on the roster, these Big 10 teams are tougher matchups now…
You could tell on the broadcast - Wisconsin just looked big. Their guards looked like they had a few extra years in the weight room. And while Dunn is a pogo stick, he has “guard weight” right now and not “power forward” weight. RD is 10 pounds lighter than Dre or Mamadi in the championship year. And even then Dre was a smaller PF
Just looking at the wisco roster, stor and klesmit both had 10 pounds on IMac

You might say, “Buchanan ate crow”.
Elephant in the room maybe but would not be fair to the kids that decided to redshirt
For me, this is fairly simple. If someone doesn’t want to play, they shouldn’t play. But we need more than one guy who can make a play off the bounce (Reece) and we certainly need more than two who are willing to try (Reece + Groves). If we aren’t exploring all our options to do that, can we just mail our first round concession to the committee right now?
(And btw, not trying to be a Dick here — people have all sorts of legit reasons for not wanting to play)
