If Alabama doesnāt get in with 10 wins against that schedule and an SEC #2 finish, Iām not sure what weāre doing here.
If that happens, Greg and Tony are going to want to blow the thing up and start guaranteeing extra spots for their leagues, and I wonāt blame them.
Their continued treatment of Notre Dame combined with Hunter Yurachekās word salad performance last night has the committeeās credibility teetering on the edge at a time when Iām not sure they can afford it with the B1G moving to make it effectively obsolete with guaranteed spots within conferences.
My prediction is that we see some sort of correction with regards to Oregon-OU-ND-Bama-USC (and maybe Miami) with the Oregon-USC game being used as haphazard cover regardless of result.
Anyone listen to coaches corner last night? Was curious on health updates on guys.

Got a @CavTex highlight
Have fsu over nc state tonight?
Is Alabamaās schedule that impressive?
OOC was FSU (ACC bottom feeder whom they lost to), Wisconsin (Big Ten bottom feeder), UL-Monroe and Eastern Illinois. Conference wins will be SEC bottom feeders Auburn, LSU and South Carolina, and ranked teams Georgia, Vanderbilt, Missouri and Tennessee. Loss to Oklahoma.
So 4 ranked wins, but consider Missouri and Tennessee, both 7-3 are ranked in the 20s and would drop out with a loss (say Tennessee to Vanderbilt or Missouri to Oklahoma). And why are those teams currently ranked? On the virtue of being in the preseason rankings, winning vs mid or meh teams and being 0-6 vs ranked teams?
Compared to Notre Dameās? Yes.
We can play the they aināt played nobody for everyone in the country.
Who in the top 15 has better wins than Vandy and Georgia?
OU has Bama and Michigan. TTU has Utah and BYU. Indiana has Oregon (who themselves is being propped up by a really underwhelming schedule imo) and Illinois (who is in that same group you have UT and Mizzou in). Iāll grant you 2 there. I think aTm is yet to play an SEC team over .500?
Also think Bama should get more credit for Mizzou than 7-3 team teetering on the edge. They beat them with Pribula healthy @ Mizzou, their two other losses were at least partially with a backup QB.
ESPN has them as 4th hardest strength of schedule, and 8th strength of record. You can nitpick team by team for everyone. (Ohio States 2 big wins are mid Texas team and a 7-3 Illinois team that would also fall out of the top 25 with a loss!)
As an asideā I donāt really believe this, but I am coming around to this radical idea of almost game by game agnosticism for teams that didnāt play each other. 10-2 against the #4 schedule is better than 10-2 against the #29 one. I donāt know if game-by-game parsing actually tells you much more than those facts.
But if we want to- Notre Dame lost to the only elite teams they played. Alabamaās losses were week 1 on the road to a still talented team that had all off-season to prepare for them and by 2 to a very very good Oklahoma team that they doubled up on yards. The same eye test and early season things they are using for justification for ND should also apply to the Tide.
It just a slippery slope filled with contradictions once you start playing that game.
UVA cheering guide
Florida State (-4.5) @ NC State - 8 (FRI), ESPN
Cheer for: Florida State
Why: This result would help the āHoos in case of a tie with SMU and Georgia Tech at 7-1, which would be decided by opponent conference winning percentage range. Virginia played Florida State while they⦠also played NC State, but as that game was not a conference game it will not count for tie breaking purposes.
#13 Miami (-17.5) @ Virginia Tech - 12, ESPN
Cheer for: Virginia Tech
Why: I know, I know Iām sorry. This is the same reasoning as above. Virginia played Virginia Tech while SMU played Miami, so a Hokie win would doubly help the āHoos in opponent conference winning percentage, enough to guarantee Virginia would win that tiebreaker
Louisville @ SMU (-2.5) - 12, ESPN2
Cheer for: Louisville
Why: An SMU loss would mean no more than one other team could reach 7-1 in conference, guaranteeing Virginiaās game against VT is win and in.
Duke (-6.5) @ North Carolina - 3:30, ACCN
Cheer for: North Carolina
Why: Duke has the best opponent conference winning percentage of potential two loss teams, so in the event Virginia loses to Virginia Tech the āHoos would need Duke to take an additional loss to feel good about their chances of making it.
Pitt @ #16 Georgia Tech (-2.5) - 7, ESPN
Cheer for: Pitt*
Why: This is a tough one, but because the Cavaliers will win any tiebreaker over Pitt, a Pitt win means that Virginia controls its own destiny with a win vs Virginia Tech on rivalry weekend. However, if both SMU and Duke lose earlier in the day, the āHoos should actually cheer for Georgia Tech, as those three results in unison would allow Virginia to clinch a spot in the ACC Championship Game regardless of next weekās results.
Nah - cheering for Miami to win out⦠then cheering for Duke to win out⦠then cheering for Ga Tech and SMU to lose once each⦠then Hoos beat Hokies and play Duke in Acc championship and win to get in and Miami gets in as well⦠Acc represents!!
Yeah I kind of want 2 ACC teams in and I think thatās only happening if Miami wins out. I mean maaaayyyyybbbeeeeee if the tech Miami game was last of the season and we needed tech to win for our spot Iād feel differently but if we can still go out and get it done ourselves Iām not pulling for tech lol

Georgia Tech beating Pitt and Georgia before losing a close game to us could make things interesting on the 2 ACC team inclusion effort too.
