I know you know this, but I wanted to explain the minutiae for the group. Back before the playoff last year, the NY6 bowls rotated as semifinal hosts every 3 years. If a bowl was a semifinal host and the traditional affiliated conference champion was in the top 4 (maybe top 2 only, I forgot), then that school would be assigned to that bowl. If a bowl wasnât a semifinal host and the affiliated conference championship chances made the playoff, the 2nd place team from that conference got the NY6 slot. So in 2019, the Orange Bowl wasnât a semifinal host and ACC champ Clemson was in the top 4, so the OB âlostâ their team and had to take the 2nd place ACC team, us.
If Clemson wasnât in the top 4, then they wouldâve gone to the OB. If the OB was a semifinal host, Clemson wouldâve gone there if it were in the top 4 or some other NY6 Bowl if it wasnât top 4. In either situation, we wouldâve gone to the 2nd ACC Bowl, Gator or Pop Tarts or Holidays, I forgot the order that year.
So the Orange Bowl was still a top tier NY6 Bowl that year. The NY6 bowls that year took the top 10 teams plus highest G5 #17 Memphis and #24 us. We probably stole a spot from #11 Utah or #12 Auburn or #13 Alabama or #14 Michigan or #15 ND.
Really well said.
Only thing I can add is that Camping World Bowl was the top ACC bowl that year, and reaching it would have been a âbeyond best-case scenarioâ kinda deal. And then we did better than that by going to the Orange Bowl (ND went to Camping World instead). Crazy year.
Our defense is so slow itâs going to take them the entire bye week to come up with a clever and amusing way to describe how slow they are.
I think some of the fans at the FSU game topped 21.4 coming down off the hill. Now that was fast!
