Of course perspective is important. Its those 2014 to 2019 seasons that make the more recent seasons questionable.

Tony himself understood this and its why he stepped down. He said as much in his pressor

If you can’t recruit to meet the standard on the court, then it’s fairly shoddy recruiting, imo. High school recruiting hasn’t been good either.

We did - SeattleHoo used to always bring this up to me. The acclaim of our recruits was better on aggregate. The results and output were worse for all of the reasons.

While the recruits we got post 2018 were solid on paper, the roster construction was always an issue. Tony kept trying to pigeon hold players into roles (“ the akil/darion role”) and if you recruit to that the playable depth kind of turns into a house of cards if more than 1 player doesn’t pan out. The moment Tony backed up Henry Coleman and later Karin Stevenson because of “fit” it should have been a sign. HC has been extremely productive. He would have played significant minutes all 4 years (maybe 5).
We stopped accumulated straight talent and started trying to recreate 2014-16 and 2018-19.

The other massive fork in the road was when Getter left. Tony had the opportunity to honestly self eval, and bring in an outsider who could bring some juice to the program (mainly on offense).
