My Dad must have dragged us to K&W 100 times growing up, and I hated.

As an adult, I now have no idea why I hated it…must have wanted a Happy Meal instead.

This might be a Jordan Minor game if burns feasts early. And frankly I have no idea how we stop him. Too good of a passer to double and too big to put Groves and Buchanan on him.

Few things I noticed watching NC State vs ND last night.

They were switching everything on defense and forcing players to make one on one plays.

They also put that freshman Dennis Parker Jr on the pg as a defender, which means somewhere else in that line up they went small defensively. Can we exploit that?

DJ Burns is big. DJ Burns is also slow as shit. One of NDs slower guys got the ball on the perimeter vs him and blew past burns like he was Usain Bolt. @DFresh11 mentioned it in the Dunn thread, but Dunn (and Bond) slashing more instead of holding the ball on the perimeter could be huge to making Burns unplayable.

Our best defense on burns might be through our offense; force him off the court. Get him in foul trouble from slow recovery and rotations.

Defense on Thorne and Morsell is going to have to be solid as well. I remember Morsell cooked McKneely a little last year. Jayden Taylor will also ave to be contained.

If they go big with Parker jr, guarding guards (while he himself is a limited threat) maybe that gives us more opportunities to play Taine. Taine thrives in situations where there is a slower jumbo guard/wing on the other team that he can defend and therefore stay on the floor. In their standard 3 guard sets maybe we see more Leon/Dunn at the 3 with that Groves/Buchanan front court. Minor could also get some run since their bigs wont make him run around .

Danny putting together the stats you need to know. But hey, as McKneely goes, so go the Hoos.

I think this was our plan of attack last year and it worked.

We were also wildly successful doubling him although I feel that may not work as well this year.

No I don’t think it will. We simply don’t have the size height or bulk wise to be able to double. Burns is a decent passing big. Check out how I think we could match up defensively in the game preview dropping tomorrow! #ShamelessSelfPromotion

Nice preview. I find myself really torn on how they defend Burns. NCSU isn’t a great (or particularly frequent) 3pt shooting team, so I’d be comfortable giving anyone except Horne a look against a rotating close out after a double. And I think I especially want to double in the minutes where Diarra is the frontcourt partner for Burns. But they will have to be cagey about mixing up the timing and the backside coverages. I also think I just put a lot of trust in Reece in free safety mode; that gets our best defender to be an active part of the play as opposed to defending Burns straight up and putting the onus on his man to be the difference maker.

But it is a bit of a dangerous game with his passing.

NC State’s KenPom sheet. Some notable things:

  • They don’t get blocked or stolen from. Great at limiting turnovers in general (5th nationally).
  • Lot of one on one stuff. 248th in Assists/Field Goals made.
  • Mediocre rebounding team.
  • Nothing all too noiceable defensively, except they don’t block the other team much.

On their schedule, their best win by a large margin is BC by 8 in overtime (BC is 91st in efficiency). Next best is ND by 2. But they have played good teams somewhat close. Lost to BYU and Tenn by 9. The exception is a blow out by Ole Miss (82nd in efficiency).

The two scenarios in my mind are Hoos in a close one (3-6 points) or NC State by 10+.

Is there an LRA social budget that can be used to purchase the $24 beers at PNC?
