Really happy for those guys. They had every reason to be flat tonight. It felt like the annual no show Pitt performance that keeps them out of the tourney. But we put our foot on their throat from the start, took full advantage of it. And never let up…legit played well. Some great individual performances. Gotta credit the coaches for it too…keeping them straight when it’s real easy right now to be anything but.

Last four games he has 51 points on 35 shots — 1.46 points per shot over four, but he was still 1.26 points per shot in the previous three, which is not inefficient.

UVA is getting better.

Tonight was as much about Pitt though as it was about UVA. That’s not taking anything away from the Hoos, it’s just reality. But yeah, Virginia is improving. You can see the lights starting to come on for several guys. Extremely young & you can’t overcome that overnight, or in one season.

You’re still going to see shit that will make you pull your hair out though. There’s just a more positive to enjoy along the way.

Two things that were hopeful about tonight:

very good defense. Pitt made it easier on us but we still played tough hard nosed defense. A welcome change.
had an answer for every time they got it to 12/13. Some well designed stuff coaches drew up against the zone. We played with confidence and took what they gave us.

Tonight was a lot of fun, and it looked way more fun for the guys than any game has been in a while. So, I’m happy for them and for us.

That having been said, one fun game doesn’t mean the team is suddenly anywhere close to good. We string a few of these in a row and we can talk, but in the meantime let’s not get carried away.

Go figure. College basketball is difficult to explain. Obviously a great game by Dai Dai and Rohde, but also excellent by Buchanan. He can drive me nuts with some of the things he does but he REALLY hustles. Wonder how many times he was on the floor after loose balls (admittedly some of them of his own doing). He has become an important part of this team, in fact moreso that Cofie of late.
