I thought the Johnnies looked great on O when I watched against us. Will have to see how theyâre doing in other games
Theyâre playing K State in a brunch special (11:30am) tomorrow but I think doing it at Alumni Hall / Carnessecca to honor Looie

We agree. I like what Iâve seen from Robinson. Just saying his PER across 16 minutes doesnât move me. What was Grant Kerseyâs PER?
A very hilarious 57.0 over the course of 19 total minutes played in his career.
If we donât play Sharma, ARob, or Power they will leave. Still think Power can be a dog. Everyone is down on him but heâs 6â9â and can shoot it. He was fine at Duke last year in limited minutes in a massively competitive line up. I still think moving him around the post (low, mid, high) could be productive against some teams. Heâs low on confidence right now and itâs there coaches job to get him feeling frisky. Who knows but Iâm still believing and heâs too big and too talented to abandon his talents. Also heâs is from from Mass like me so I have his back. Run some shit for him in the high post Ron!

P.S. My big fear is that people who shouldnât leave in the TP, will, and the people who should leave, wonât.
Wonât they just leave anyway when we hire a new coach?
Iâm with Hav. Two things can be true, Power stinks and he should play more. Same with Sharma. I think they made a big mistake trying to use TJ as a guard early. That set back his defensive adjustment, because playing the 4/5 is a lot the way they do things so heâs behind in the rotations and thatâs his biggest problem right now.
Even though TJ hasnât done much, theyâve been good offensively with him at the 4. And fine defensively other than the horrible first half stretch vs Florida.
Everyone will evaluate if they stay/go. My gut is that unless we hire someone who has a name, a resume, and a style of play that resonates, we will see massive attrition. Players who play and who contribute that are conducive to whoever the next coach is will stay. Players who donât play and have no attributes for the new coachâs style of play will leave. Then there is the middle groundâŚ. Players who think they can or Canât play play in the new system. They also have to figure out who the new coach is bringing in from his old school. Itâs going to be interesting but you donât find a ton of 6â9â or 610 guys that can shoot. Thatâs why Iâm not giving up on power and I donât care about his percentages through seven games.
My biggest worry is recruiting. Itâs going to hard for Ron and staff to recruit to a style of play that really only worked for one dude in college basketball. Thatâs why I think the whole âhonoring Tonyâ strategy is a one year run for Ron. As our new member Junebug stated, he may âhonor himself out of a jobâ.
Agreed, but getting him more minutes at the 4 basically has to come out of Saundersâ minutes, since they seem pretty strongly committed to having one of Blake or Cofie on the floor at all times. Power-Saunders frontcourt hasnât happened at all yet.
My up to the moment very preliminary out my ass ranking of how likely players are to stayâŚ
Under Sanchez
Staying Sharma, Cofie, Saunders, Rohde, Gertrude
Toss Upish: McKneely, Ames, Buchanan, Power
Probably Gone: Robinson, Bliss
Generic New Coach
Staying: Sharma
Slight lean to stay: Rohde, McKneely, Power, Gertrude
Slight lean to leave: Saunders, Ames, Buchanan, Robinson,
Probably gone: Cofie, Bliss
A lot more variables to a new coachâŚwho they have previous relationships with, who is brought in as assistants, etc.
The Maple Mamba must be loving Cville.
Can you do the staff? Or is that too spicy for public consumption?
Ben McCollum, bring Bennett Stirtz with him, spend on retaining the best of this yearâs team especially Cofie, veteran/steadying hand PG in the portal, and then BIG bag toss at a true 5.
Thatâs my strategy to get UVA basketball back on top in a hurry!
And, doing my best hooandtrue impression, this looks something like:
Yes, Iâm aware this is very unlikely from a continuity standpoint + there would be a lot more of McCollumâs guys in the scenario heâs hired but since when are these fantasy lineups every rooted in reality
So Saunders and Cofie most positively correlated with Ron and IMac/Power slightly negatively correlated.
This makes sense. I hate to pre-speculate on guys- but the one I look at is McKneely. I think if Kentucky has a really good year and flashes the offense theyâve shown, that would be such a good regional and system fit. Selfishly, want to see him for one year at UVA under ann improved offensive system, but wouldnât blame him for jumping at that chance.
Gertrude as a return (on the surface) seems strange, but there is potentially a path (not knowing what his academic situation is) where he could have a UVA degree in hand in 2026 and all options open, with 2 years still remaining. And he would for sure be an emphasized piece for 2025-26 here, regardless of HC.
I think that, aside from whatever warm feelings Gertrude has about UVa/Cville, heâd probably do the best NIL and PT-wise (at least P5) by staying put. At least NIL-wise, I think
Iâm also not really sure what his options would even look like at this point
All it takes is one summer league/pick-up game with coaches around where he goes off and looks athletic as hell. Like a Drew League game or one of those tourneys where @Hooandtrue and @Jerome a d @HoozGotNext and most of you are watching at 3 am through a Ring-doorbell feed.
By the way- letâs get a fucking win tomorrow. Fuck all the noise. Bad shit happened. Itâs over. Letâs go to Texas and fuck shit up. Throw in some new stuff and take a shit on their first ever ACC game. Leave the celebratory balloons and the confetti resting in the rafters. Fuck them.
Keep the ACC opener streak alive at the very least

Fuck them is right Hav. See you for pregame
