Maybe it will be like a Savannah Bananas game: both teams will compete on stilts, and if a Vandy fan catches a ball out of bounds, itâs a turnover on the Hoos.
So what are our options tomorrow night?
- hopefully a post game box score
- Hopefully highlights from one or both social media feeds
- Hopefully a Vandy reporter or two
- Is Vandy radio doing it?
- message board posts and tweets?
What am I missing?
I canât find that it will be on the radio⌠but if anyone finds otherwise, please let us know!
More likely best bet would be Vandy beat people on social media.
I honestly wouldnât bet on a box score. A bunch of these guys are still very much in the secret scrimmage mindset.
UVA will very likely be doing baseline highlights but outside of that, youâll probably just have to rely on tidbits from fans/reporters in attendance.
How are they going to note on the box score when the fans impacted the on-court score?
To your point, thereâs already a stats broadcast link for the nova game. And also a link for Vandys exhibition against UAB.
But not for this one⌠AlasâŚ
Maybe they just donât want it to get out how goofy the format is.
Is Byington still listing everyone on the roster as PGs?
I have to take a drastic stand on this!! In protest of no streaming and no TV, I will refuse to watch the game!!
Eamonn Brennan did his SEC preview today, has Vandy as a league contender (he has UF on a tier all their own).
Vanderbilt Commodores
Weâre trying to not get too excited about Vanderbilt. The preseason KenPom rankings â which have Vandy at No. 19 in the country, much higher than many preseason writers â didnât help. Itâs hard. Itâs really hard.
Sorry, but Mark Byington just might be that good.
We realize this is a trite comparison, considering they coached at the same school at the same time, and then took over a relative bottom-feeder in a massive league (granted, Vanderbilt has had more basketball success than Indiana in football, which is to say: some) but: He might be the Curt Cignetti of basketball?
Georgia Southern ranks No. 224 in KenPomâs program rankings, a measure of their usual performance in the 25-plus years in Kenâs database. Itâs a low-major program, obviously. Byington finished above that mark in six of his seven seasons, with an average rank of 176th. (That average was also dragged by the first season, when GSU finished 291st; the program was usually much more competitive than that.) Likewise, people donât really remember the mess James Madison hoops was when Byington arrived in 2020-21, either, but having done some freelance work covering the CAA before his arrival, allow us to attest: JMU was an absolute mess. And yet: 193rd in the KenPom history, while Byington went 177th, 227th, 98th, and 63rd, the last of which involved a 32-4 campaign, a No. 12 seed and a first-round win over Wisconsin. Vanderbiltâs last tournament appearance was in 2016-17, Bryce Drewâs first year. Byington got them there in his first season.
This is a very, very good basketball coach.
Players come and go. The best coaches either a) recruit to their system with a clear vision for fit, which often requires immense resource or b) have the chops to let it wash over them and figure it out as they go. Byington is the latter. It would be nice to have Jason Edwards back, but he went to Providence to be a star, so Byington, with his track record of finding value, recruited Frankie Collins from TCU to do more or less the same stuff (albeit with an injury history, and less proven efficiency). Duke Miles, same deal: Troy (meh), High Point (great), Oklahoma (suddenly a shooting guard?), likewise very much in the âjust give me guys who can handle the ball and run good stuffâ Byington mold.
Tyler Nickel is back, and among the best wing scorers in the league, while Devin McGlockten is a proven frontcourt menace despite his 6-foot-7 size. North Carolina transfer Jalen Washington will likely start at center. Did Washington tear the world apart at UNC? Not at all. Do you feel like Byington will put him in better spots? Yes. AK Okereke is an interesting tweener; Tyler Harris was solid at Washington; George Kimble III scored a lot of points at Eastern Kentucky. There is also Mike James â Mike James! â another formerly high-pedigree prospect who played a gazillion minutes for terrible Kenny Payne-coached teams at Louisville, got hurt immediately at NC State, and comes in with a last-ditch point to prove. Another misfit toy.
Most of all, though, it comes down to Byington. He does whatever. Changes rotations, switches positions, runs weird looks â whatever. Itâs a strange thing to say after one year, but we already have a similar level of faith in his ability to create overperforming teams that we did in, like, Bo Ryan at Wisconsin. Vandy might look a little odd sometimes. But if youâre paying attention, you just assume this guy is going to figure it all out.
Vandy definitely wins on the continuity front with McGlockton, Nickel and Tanner.
Their guards are not as offensively effieicent as our but they are physical, can drive and. touch the paint, and can lock up some.
Would imagine our guards to be a little frustrated on both ends tomorrow. All hypothetical of course since ya know we cant even watch it.
Leading scorer vs Vandy?
- Malik Thomas
- Not Malik Thomas
Iâd take Malik over any one other player, but the field against Malik.
4 12 minute quarters and coaches probably gonna give plenty of run to younger guys.
Chance Mallory goes Steph Curry in the 3rd
If we lose: âItâs an exhibition. Staff are experiementing with rotations and practicing situations. First time they are all playing together. Not much you can take away from a scrimmage in this settingâ.
If we win: âACC Champs, 40-0. National titleâ
Wait what the hell when did Tyler Nickel get good?!
Whoâs going that wants to livestream on instagram or facebook?
who starts
- Jacari Ugo
- Jacari GrĂźnloh
- Lewis Ugo
- Lewis GrĂźnloh
Trick question. We will score no points. Sorry, byington is just that good.
