He’s a little more avant-garde than I think they want. Nick Nurse did a bit of that and people loved it until you get a couple losses throwing a box-and-one and zones at All-Stars.

He would be good if he got the right organizational and team buy-in though. His/his staff’s scouting eye is what’s really special IMO. He’s really really good at finding gems, and that provides a lot more value in college with heavier roster turnover.

(Happy with Odom but still #AllinForByington if it doesn’t work out)

I think Eamonn Brennan said in a preseason podcast that Byington does get some NBA love. Not specific rumors, but more “NBA people say he’s the kind of the coach that could make the transition successfully some day.” I think they liked the Xs and Os and how hard his teams play.

Vandy has a guy named Chandler Bing on their roster! That might be the most Vandy name ever, even if he doesn’t look like anyone who’s ever appeared on “Friends”.

His info page on Vandy’s website has a bunch of his HS stats, and under “Personal” the only thing it lists is “Has never watched Friends”. LoL.

I’ll note for the record that Friends ran on TV from 1994 to 2004 and Vandy’s Chandler Bing is a freshman so he was probably born in 2006 or 2007. So, he may have never watched it, but his parents certainly did and have kind of a brutal sense of humor.

Funny how Odom’s first “game” is against the only coach I would’ve legitimately preferred over him as the hire (I still maintain that stance even tho I’m crazy excited about Odom). If we don’t win this meaningless exhibition game where “fans” have an impact on the score, Dr. Williams is gonna get a stern talking to from me I can fucking assure you of that. go hoos

Wouldn’t surprise me if we kicked the tires but he didn’t want to leave Vandy after just a year. Honestly, it’s a good gig, I’d happily take $5mm/year to live in Nashville.
