šŸˆ Virginia at Virginia Tech, L, 37-17, 5-7 (3-5 ACC), Saturday, 30 November 2024, 2000, ACCN

I imagine the OL/DL battle is going to look a lot like SMU and UNC. I just have zero faith in our offense to do shit. Couple that with a cold, night game in Lane, QB3 or not I suspect theyā€™ll run the ball well and get the inevitable special teams screw up by us. Will likely be ugly but I can easily see them cover like 24-13 or so.

Same. Donā€™t understand that line. I think the weather will play a big part as well. They can run and we canā€™t, even more so now with Brown out.

Can we just not have a thread for this one?

SMU was rough. UNC I still think wouldā€™ve looked a lot different if we were healthy. Had a very hard time making up for all the missing pieces. Hoping this game will be somewhere in between and they can hold their own more often than not but not super optimistic.

I will say this, anyone optimistic about this game is certifiable and probably a great friend to have around when your wife leaves you, dog runs away, and home burns down. Iā€™ve seen enough to know Iā€™ve seen too much.

Iā€™m just miffed by how our football team doesnā€™t show up for the Tech game. Itā€™s embarrassing! I mean, WTF!!! At least put in some effort!!! If we get boat raced again this weekend, then everyone must go . This has been unacceptable.

Even with VTā€™S 3rd string qb, does UVA keep it within two touchdowns?

The passion, the history, the rivalry!

Oh wait. Only 5 current UVA players have even played a game at Tech.

Crazy i knew there werent many who have experienced Lane but thatā€™s impressive.

They have played in some hostile environments this season which will help.

Also there is something for not knowing any better.

I just remember a few years ago when I listened to an interview with one of our basketball transfersā€¦ canā€™t remember which one it was. Someone asked about Virginia Tech and their answer was like, ā€œYeahā€¦ thatā€™s the big rivalry school or something right?ā€

We as fans think they get hyped up for these gamesā€¦ but with the new hyper-transfer eraā€¦ many of the players donā€™t really get too emotional for these rivalry games nor know any of the history.

Well, at least half the players there Friday will be emotional and looking for blood.

Tha age of the rivalry has changed. Ans honestly given the way UVa fans treat the rivalry itā€™s probably good the players ignore it.

Iā€™ve said it multiple times the amount of respect and fear UVa fans show to Tech is sickening. I donā€™t care what the record is. Its hard to buy into something when everything you hear tells you you suck and are going to lose by 20 because you donā€™t care.

It was mentioned more than once this weekend by former players that Virginiaā€™s biggest current rival is their own fanbase.

Disagree. This game is lost every year between the helmets/headsets but it is not the fans fault. They are a symptom and not the cause

Fans are totally justified to have a defeatist attitude when it comes to the UVA-Tech football rivalry.

This is a totally fair statement. We as a fanbase are pretty bad.

Now that said, the product weā€™ve been given has sucked for a good amount of time. And the game day experience has kind of also sucked for a good amount of time. Not trying to make too many excuses because I do wish we had a more diehard fanbase, but very little has been done to really bring that fanbase back recently.

And I think beyond just sucking thereā€™s been far too many years where people just knew the coaches were dead men walking, so why would they tune in rather than just wait for the next regime change? The London era dragging as long as it did and the level of ineptitude murdered our support. Bronco had things a little more interesting and if Covid never hit, he ever had the backbone to fire his defensive coordinator, and he never bailed, maybe we would have seen attendance tick up as we were at least competitive. But now with Elliott it again has felt like the writing was on the wall for a while now.

Thereā€™s just so little to get excited for. Weā€™ve sucked, weā€™ve been embarrassed every year for like multiple decades at this point by our rival (except one time thank god). Why are UVA fans meant to get pumped up and excited? What am I being sold on?

Anyway. Itā€™s a problem. But nothing is going to solve it beyond actually being good for a while.

2022 was canceled. 2020 was the pandemic (was there even a crowd?). 2018 was the last normal game there. I donā€™t think anyone has played a regular game at Lane in a UVA uniform.

Agree with this @BDragon. Iā€™m to blame for a lot of things in this world. Like a lot. A lot a lot.

But when it comes to our total futility in the rivalry over the past 20 years, my hands are spotless.

As an older Hoo I am still scratching my head how this became a rivalry. When I left Cā€™ville (and even the first 6 or so years after) we had the Terps as our true rival and second place firmly held by the Heels. I get the feeling that Tech wanted this rivalry and when MD went to the B1G it just got cemented in place. I canā€™t wait for the day when one of us moves to another conference and this thing dies on the vine.
