To me big question is, Are we going to allow Tech to play the whole game using Lawal to pick Amesâ man to get that matchup they exploited in the last game? With a week to prepare, Young will be all over that. It worked last week when I donât think weâd even done the switching, so that was kinda put together in real time. With actual preparation, we better have a plan. Doubt doubling the post will work very well. Amazing that our last 2 opponents werenât able to exploit it better.
Revenge time.
Lead game on the CW, at least.
Iâm frankly surprised weâre still doing it. Agree that we might need to break some tendencies on Saturday. Does VPI have a free week, too? Interesting.
Outside of the post double, which remains a sometimes baffling standard, it feels like Ron and the guys have figured some things out over the last few games, with a more consistent rotation and offensive approach. A game free week could be a great opportunity to build on that on the practice floor. I am interested to see if the team is able to build on this mini-run, or if itâs an opponent-driven mirage.
I think itâs some of both.
But they are clearly playing with more confidence, trust & flow offensively. They are starting to get better looks.
Definitely playing looser and taking earlier shots. Looks more like a team that is not over-thinking and just balling. GT was making some crazy bombs and they quickly overcame our big early lead ⌠and we just kept coming. Didnât matter. Showed some grit and confidence.
Saturdayâs game is at 2pm unless something changedâŚ?
FixedâŚtook me a full minute to translate to military time.
Almost worse than SHT (Standard Hillary Time)
Kinda think Mike Young will do a much better job preparing for our âswitch everythingâ approach than Capel or Stoudamire. The stuff he runs is well suited to exploit it. And Iâm not sure we can keep up our hot shooting.
On the flipside, I canât imagine theyâll shoot as well as they did last time around, regardless of how well they can exploit our switches.
Since mid-Jan. we are 66th most efficient, Hokies are 77th. Over the last 10 games, we are 103rd and Hokies are 87th.
Guessing line opens at -2.5 Hokies.
If we had a stopper at PG weâd win this game easily.
For me to believe that our team has made some progress in turning this season around, I need to see some strong efforts on the boards and some relentless defense. Historically, weâve shot poorly in that poorly lit catacomb in Blacksburg and itâs going to take the little things to give us victory there. Go Hoos!
Yeah, getting a guard stuck on Lawal and Poteat isnât the most appealing of plans. But I would have also said Ndongo would give switches some trouble and they battled for the most part (Rohde especially, dudeâs a gamer). But thereâs something to be said for just going full send on your defensive plan rather than trying to cover all your bases at once and risking the possibility of doing nothing well. In general I think switching is an OK plan against a team that runs more intricate player motion actions because it turns the game into iso-ball.
UVA +1.5
o/u 126.5
I like the over. Iâve seen our offense and defense lately.
Agee that over feels real good
PPPLLLLLLEEEEAAASSSSEEE win this one!
fsu down 25 with 2:31 left, and yet, somehow, I know 3 OTs are incoming.
