Thatās every UVA team outside 2019. You ever see Brogdon take a man iso and hit a step back 3. Our best teams were full of role players who just operated really well in mover blocker/packline. Were all veteran upperclassmen and played multiple years with eachother while having older players on the roster when they were younger to help usher them in.
Very rarely under Tony if ever have we had a 30 pt a night bucket getter.
Iād say Malc and Ty actually were our two guys that we could just run in iso. I donāt have any numbers to back it up, but Malc kept it himself more and more later in his career.
Man we haveāt had a guard who can hit a floater in a hot minute. Just that simple skillset changes so much in terms of what we can do. I remember Rohde had one vs Notre Dame and I was like āHavent seen that in like 5 yearsā
UVA fall off is clearly because Tony ditched the suits. And also the new jerseys. Just further reinforces that. We are not a serious culture and it starts with the attire.
Still donā't think us being a team of just role players is the excuse as to why we are bad. You can be a team full of role player and still be a threat to win the acc and make the tournament/not get blown out by 20 on the road every game.
Think itās lack of experience and scheme not being friendly to either the individual strengths or the greenness of this roster (which falls on coaching)
Edit: saw @hoosywhat typing. Speak your mind. Join the fray LOL
Edit 2: this is like me forgetting that Gill had more post moves than i thought
I agree on the experience piece up to a point. Reece and Groves have played over 100 college games. Imac, Rohde and Dunn are now over 45. Harris when he gets back has played over 60 games. I think weāll continue to get better while some of the older teams level out - so there is hope I guess!
Yeah, this is the kind of team that in theory our defensive personnel matches up well with. This team should be able to cope with being spread out, we have the guys to hold up against Hildrethās mismatch post game without moving Reece off their main perimeter initiator (Miller I assume), and we have a good answer for Carr. If they want to try to feed Efton a ton, I think we can live with that. Their backup big Keller is more of a stretch big too.
Just now looking for some Efton Reid highlights, and early returns suggest heās a roller, getting the ball on the blocks, and just posting up. Not to reignite the discussion about DJ Burnsā coverage, but I think Burns starting with the ball on the perimeter really made our defense make tough choices. The decisions with Reid will seem more straightforward, even if the result might be that we canāt guard him straight up.
If thereās another psychological collapse leading to a blow-out loss, then I think we need T-Benz to channel his inner hockey coach and deliver one of these harangues on the trip home:
