šŸˆ Virginia at Wake Forest, W, 31-30, 2-0 (1-0 ACC), Saturday, 7 September 2024, 1900, ESPN2

Nah wake had it all clicking racked up 500 yards. Hoos showed up and made plays in the clutch. Defense got stops agaisnt the run and the pass and the offense was lethal in the 4th.

Give credit where it’s due hoos went out and took one

UVA definitely shot itself in the foot more. All the penalties. All the 4th down WF conversions. The dropped td pass. And all our injuries

We were 3-14 on 3rd down, a good chunk of which were 4 yards or less to go. And again just to reiterate, we had a wide open TD pass dropped in the endzone in the 1st quarter along with a drive stalled out by a completely unnecessary blindside block penalty.

To be honest I don’t think we played a particularly good brand of football today outside of what we did through the air, but it’s encouraging that I think that and yet we still won on the road against a P5 team. If we clean up the fundamentals and don’t have half of our defense get injured in one quarter of football we might end up with a decent squad.

2-0 and onto Maryland. Hoping to see a good crowd for that game, not sure how that game will go but a rowdy home environment wouldn’t hurt our chances.

I quit posting at halftime but didn’t quit watching. Things were bleak but man those Cavs just don’t quit.

Full write up tomorrow but some quick thoughts: winning is always fun, but that definitely could’ve gone better. I love that Malachi Fields was essentially unguardable. I don’t love that our QBs had as many rushing attempts as our RBs. For a staff that has talked so much about the need to be able to establish the run for all 3 seasons they’ve been in place, they hardly even attempted to grind it out against a defense that A isn’t very good at stopping it and B line up giving space to run between the tackles. Short of it is going forward there wasn’t much confidence inspired that we’ll have a balanced attack.

Defense was full on jeckle and Hyde tonight. Horrific start to the game, very strong finish. Defensive line as many have pointed out isn’t great, but they did play with a lot of intensity the last couple of possessions when the game was on the line. 6 sacks but 5 were by blitzers. That has to improve.

Scott better be ELECTRIC next week. Old school rivalry renewed with the promise of the future hanging in the balance. If you can be there, be there!

Last thing… we’re working on putting together regular football shows. Hopefully we’ll have a very special guest for you guys this week. Stay tuned.

Haven’t read the 400 and some posts, but a few thoughts about the game.

  1. Loved the win, but didn’t look too likely at several points during the game.
  2. Colandrea throws a stronger pass than I remembered from last year.
  3. Looks like if teams want to take away his run, they can. But, they have to be giving up something to devote that much attention to him.
  4. Harris will probably never have an easier long td pass but kudos to him for playing extremely well for the rest of the game.
  5. Kudos to the D for keeping Wake out of the end zone the last two possessions, especially considering the big losses to injury through the game. Any injury reports?
  6. I will take Brown over Pace all day long. He has better speed, more wiggle. Pace never makes anyone miss.
  7. Malachi was incredible last night. Haven’t seen the stats yet but besides the many catches, he made some very high degree of difficulty ones including on 4th down.
  8. Let’s step on the Terps.

Gonna rewatch the game today should be an interesting watch after taking the emotion out. Excited to see what @JBHoo has instore for us as well.

I think the tape will be damning and encouraging which makes for a fun watch. I have a few things I want to look for in particular.

Man the line backers even with injuries helped compensate so much for the dline.

Also Colandrea struggled making the right read at times but many when he throws North to south he cannot be stopped (unless he stops himself with an errant pass lol)

How good is coastal Carolina supposed to be this year? Have a feel for the Maryland matchup to an extent (better team than us but very winnable at home), but no feel at all for difficulty level of the Coastal Carolina game.

Havent watched Coastal Carolina this year but looking at their scores and oppoents I wouldn’t tske much away from it. They score points 55 against Jax st and 40 agaisnt W&M. But they haven’t been tested yet.

Looks like their QBs were a combined 10/26 against William & Mary.

Yea thatd a wild box score starter went 8/23 for 160 but he didnt toss a pick

They did run it for 279 though

Thanks all for the entertainment this morning…. Read the whole thread in an hour…
Biggest play of the game was a 2nd quarter catch by Harris to keep the drive alive.
I think it was 3rd and 11.
