🏀 Virginia Transfers Watch - '23 - '24 Season

The announcers actually spent a minute talking about how four years with Bennett gave him the fundamentals foundation he needed to be great at Texas.

Nope, zero criticism intended. I’m genuinely curious. I mean it makes sense in theory that intensity, precision, and motor should help in the NBA, but maybe the NBA is a place where talent matters far, far more.

If you truly believe this I don’t know what to tell you. Different leash lengths have been a hallmark of Tony Bennett teams since he got here.

Buchanan has been wonderful. But he’s able to play freely because there’s nobody else on the roster he has to look over his shoulder for. There is literally no leash.

I dont think these things from his UVa teammates are negative shots at Virginia. Just his homeboy showing love

We all talk about it more over here so in our minds maybe we see it differently than Jayden is implying or not

Wouldn’t surprise me that he is developing a standard post game now. We just don’t do a good job of that at all. We get in the reps for screens, pin downs, PNR, et. al. but that is about it. Caffaro also posting improved numbers this year too. I’ll take Tony’s offense every time but there is a price we pay for our focus.

Oh yeah, almost certainly right. “Unleashed” is just an interesting word to choose. But he probably just means it in a “He’s going off” type way, as opposed to an “uncaged” type way.

But also I’m almost certainly wasting brain cells thinking about the subtext of one word insta posts from dudes in their early 20s.

We all do no doubt

Also Shed had some really good games OOC for us last year. There were nights when the light came on but it was consistent. Seems like he’s doing well so far but the 27 is not representative of his performance.

I know who’s fault it is – both his and the staff’s! I vary between 49-51 and 51-49 fault allocation depending on the day. I said something when the season was over and before he announced his x-fer: Shed and Tony needed to go to couples’ therapy. It was a joke, but also true! Their relationship was broken, and ultimately, it seemed to me that neither party really wanted to fix it, which is why many relationships end.

But, also, yeah, I think being at Texas might be good for him (even if they won’t be as good as I thought in the preseason - but stay tuned, I guess, including today). I think B-dubs seems like a MUCH better fit for Tony’s preferences, but one thing that we could all use some work on is having a mutually productive relationship with people who don’t necessarily fit our style. And I include Tony in all of us.

Uhhhhh, let’s not forget the opponent was Louisville.

No new surprises with the Louisville game. We know he can be great against mid and low majors.

Every time? Why? I mean, sometimes makes sense - Ken Pom AdjO:

2024: 37th (8th in the ACC)
2023: 72nd (8th)
2022: 85th (10th)
2021: 17th (2nd)
2020: 234th (14th)
2019: 2nd :grinning: :100: :+1: :moneybag:
2018: 30th (5th)
2017: 50th (11th)
2016: 8th (3rd)

another important detail

Gonna tangent off of this into another thread – b/c it’s really about this year’s team, not transfers. I was worried about Tony’s offense coming into this season. and tbh, 2021 was almost the worst one given personnel – how we feeling so far? I don’t know – my unwritten post will basically be the long version of “I don’t know” (like all my posts)

Feel good. Better than I expected coming into the season. Reece and RD have both bumped up their usage by a bunch while maintaining similar efficiency numbers, Leon is giving big bench go-to guy energy as a scorer, which I did not expect, and our worst offensive game came with our best source of gravity out.

Well, we shall see how Shedrick does against UConn tonight. He has a chance to prove himself against real competition.

What i really like about this team is that they are playing free. Sometimes I believe Tony demands so much that some are reluctant to shoot. That can put unnecessary pressure on some players with an open shot and you can see it. So far this team doesn’t have that problem

The only guy I think might be affected by this is Rohde. It feels like he is passing on shots he can make. But overall I think you are right about that.

Your right .Rhode has turned down several shots but i believe it’s mainly because he’s not shooting good. Keep shooting man. I remember Guy missing something like 15 3s in a row one time. That didn’t stop him. The next one is going in

So basically have had 4 acceptable offensive seasons out of 14 so far?
