We might not lose by 20
Bethune gonna get cooked, man!
After attending both the Nova game and the Florida game, Ron has some straightening out to so regarding his rotations.
- With our rebounding so poor, he must have 2 bigs in at all times. This hasnât always been the case ( since Power canât be considered a rebounder)
- Rohde looks exhausted during the last 10 minutes of every game. Someway, somehow he needs more bench time. Maybe that will reduce his turnovers
- Several times Ron has juggled the lineup just as the one on the court is playing well. Tony did this too for the sake of playing time (I guess). Leave them in and let them play the run out.
- At least twice he subbed for IMac right after he hit a 3. He scores in bunches. Reconsider that substitution.
- Sharma seemed to handle the ball fairly well at SMU under duress. He deserves more pt if Ames canât play Thursday
Iâm a fan since I walked on grounds 62 years ago, so I wonât throw in the towel, but I agree that the coaches need more aggression. During timeouts at Fl, I only saw Kyle coaching up individuals while others were standing around. Ron spends a good amount of time seated and I havenât seen him try to âworkâ the refs yet.
i grew up in Jacksonville not too far from BCC which is in Daytona. When the started hoops in the early â80s they were a regular punching bag for UF, FSU, JUâŚdoes not look like things have changed much in the intervening 40 years.
No googlingâŚwhich HOF college basketball coach went to Bethune Cookman?
Nolan Richardson? (Nope)
Chaney?
I swear I did not google it.
Lenny Wilkens?
(incorrect)
Voytek Maresh
I donât think weâre doing a preview for this one.
The most notable thing about Bethune Cookman is that theyâre coached by Reggie Theus, of Hang Time fame. They also might be the only team in the country with multiple super duper seniors, players in their 6th season.
Theyâre 2-6, ranked 292 in the NET. Most of their schedule so far has been payday games. They did keep it close at Nebraska, losing 63-58. The other road games, not so much. Wins over SC State and North Dakota.
Not much stands out about them. The leading scorer is senior guard Brayon Freeman (16.5 PPG), a DC native at his fourth school. They stick to normal 3G/2F lineups, frontcourt guys are in the 6â7-6â9" range. A bunch of guys who transferred in from higher levels, a few like Freeman I remember from their HS days. Not a good team by any stretch, but they wonât be overwhelmed physically.
I love the Hang Time reference!
Tonight is important to find out what the deal is with Christian Bliss. The way I see it, there are four possible reasons for his absence this season:
-
He is still hurt and cannot play
-
He isnât ready to contribute effectively even when healthy and fully cleared.
-
He is preserving this year of eligibility (unannounced Medical RS) in order to transfer.
-
He is sitting out the year (unannounced Medical RS) to see who our coach is next year and will then make a decision.
Itâs one of the four. With Dai Dai banged up and likely gimpy, if he doesnât play, I think itâs either 3 or 4. And if heâs still hurt , then can we please get an update on what the issue is and if we can expect to see him this season.
Agree that tonightâs the night where if we donât see Bliss, then as a fan itâs probably time to throw in the towel, another post-natty Bennett four-star bust.
Why havenât we seen Bliss play this year:
- His injury is worse than we have been told and will keep him out all year
- He is preserving a year of eligibility by medically red-shirting and eventually transferring
- He is medically red-shirting and is waiting to see who the next head coach will be
- We missed on the evaluation and he isnât ready to contribute
Ditto. Itâs tonight or bust. Couple his recent IG post with this being a cupcake matchup. If heâs not injured, he plays, unless thereâs gamesmanship afoot
My guess is lingering injury plus as time goes on, the thought of preserving eligibility probably grows, if that makes sense.
E. Sanchez isnât a fan
