The issue is the SMU-Duke-Wake stretch. 3 should be solid to more than solid teams. Hope we can keep him upright through that stretch.

Duke lost a lot. Wake is scrappy and will fight ( We win). SMU, I will accept whatever outcome happens tbh.

Is 11-2 with losses @SMU and Miami in the ACCCG with that schedule a playoff team? Or 11-1 (@SMU) and losing a tiebreaker for an ACCCG a playoff team? What if we lose the tiebreaker to SMU and they beat (or even lose to) Miami, would 3 ACC teams make the playoff?

Think it’d be tough to be the third team in from the ACC with our strength of schedule. Need to clearly wrestle into second id think, but who knows.

I highly doubt it unless a couple of teams on our schedule are unexpectedly top 25 caliber by seasons end. Otherwise we need to go undefeated in the regular season or win the ACC champ game

I doubt the CFP committee would give the ACC 3 spots tbh, even if we earned it. Duke getting smacked last year also didn’t help our case.

I think if we have a string of convincing wins, we’d be in a 2024 Indiana situation. If we’re winning the way we won last season, no chance we get a playoff bid.

Kinda paradoxically, if we lose @VT or @FSU and win @SMU, our resume might look better than if we won all of our games besides @SMU.

I mean, this is all way too premature, but it’s fun that this is the daydream scenario at this stage and not maybe if we get lucky a couple games we might sneak into a bowl game with 6 (or even 5) wins.

I mean I’m sure they’re good…they’ve been very solid since joining the ACC. It just seems like when looking at our schedule, a lot of folks talk like it’s a loss…it’s not like we’re playing Ohio State in Columbus.

I think getting in at 11-2 would be tough. Would definitely need a ranked win or two and/or the losses are really close

So I think potentially rooting guide this week is Duke > Tulane, Cal > UCLA, maybe marginally FSU > SMU since I think SMU has a better shot to rebound from a loss. Also hate to say it but if the Tech game is a big ranked vs ranked game and we get a spotlight during rivalry week that would help a lot too..

Not getting in at 11-2 would mean that we weren’t in the top 10 at 11-1 because the past committees haven’t let a CCG loss knock a team out of the playoff that would’ve made it if they didn’t play a CCG.

2024 Indiana was ranked 9 the week before the CCGs, so it’d be close and would depend on how many other teams were having great seasons.

BYU was out at 11-1 going into conference championship week last year, and that was with a win over a top 15 team and the only loss being on the road to a top four team

Granted SMU the year before was 8 at 11-1 with no wins over teams ranked by year end. As you said probably depends also on the teams around us

You’re right, 2025 BYU is a better comp than 2024 Indiana. 11-2 is probably one of the first teams out, especially if this years committee weighs SOS more heavily.
