I never imagined that if you were doing offense/defense substitutions for Power and Murray, Murray would be the one in for offense and Power the one in for defense.

Testament to the value of positional length even when you struggle elsewhere.

But itā€™s odd to me that Taine somewhere along the way became thought of as a plus defensive player. Thatā€™s always been his weakness because he doesnā€™t change direction well.

From a coaching perspective itā€™s logical because they tend to value knowledge - knowing where to be - more than ability (hence the Gertrude PT last year as one example). But the fan sentiment is a head scratcher.

Clemson defense ainā€™t Wakeā€™s.

Coaches think getting scored over is better D than getting scored around.
Dumbā€¦. Like who cares if I simply turn around and score over a midget who is playing ā€œgreatā€ d by always staying in frontā€¦ā€¦ hilarious.
Of course all of our guards have been getting blown by most of the season ā€¦ I might even say Ames has been the best on D since he got healthy again.

Absolutely drove me crazy last year when Eli would get lost on a rotation and then sit the rest of the game when his other possessions were insanely valuable on that end. Give me output every time.

Murray has by far been the worst on the defensive end of the three, though (four if you count Sharma) and each of the others are contributing more on the offensive end to offset.

Where are my math guys? I bet someone could actually figure out how much quicker Taineā€™s reaction time, change of direction, and closing speed would have to be to be in better defensive positioning than Power giving up 4 inches in height and (assuming) about another 4 in reach contesting shots, rebounding, etc.

Neither is their offense. They are hanging 80 on us.

Because effort is a calculation that translates during the game and not as a stat. Taine provides more effort and toughness than either Blake or Power and so itā€™s not a head scratcher for fans to see and appreciate it!

Man so funny to me that punishing/ sitting a guy for ā€œmissing defensive rotationsā€ was really a thing
When that guy could athletically cover for that miss

Sorry but just wanted to respond assuming we agree on the larger point

It hasnā€™t translated during the game to a positive impact on the floor - itā€™s translated to the worst impact across all of our players.

Itā€™s not like any of our guys are low effort/bad attitude guys. Silly to think Power isnā€™t trying, heā€™s just struggled.

There are a lot of players who would give you all of the hustle in the world - but there also has to be a baseline of output.

Yep. Thereā€™s an element of teaching that goes with that and I appreciate that - but the timeline on that has to be sped up. Pull the guy for a stretch of time in the game and talk to him, not the entire game or games at a time.

You can continue to instruct but the actual production canā€™t be sacrificed.

Using that example, If Power was providing the output that Taine isnā€™t then he would be playing correct?

Heā€™s definitely providing more offense, and not bad enough defense to bench in favor of Power.

Not necessarily. We have a history of not playing players who arenā€™t providing the output but still play because of intangiblesā€¦ to our detriment.

But no, Power is also a player who shouldnā€™t be playing (theyā€™re pretty much a push re: their contributions on the season, Murray better for the offense Power better for the defense - neither should be logging minutes at this point, IMO).

The other 8 guys have performed considerably better this season - the initial contrast was between Blake (who should be in the rotation) and Murray. I agree Power should also be sitting.

I think the perception that Blake doesnā€™t hustle is because he lacks strength. He gets pushed around under the boards, fumbles the ball, gets tied up and is backed down while on defense. He does dive for lose balls and seems to try hard as a teammate, but the weaknesses donā€™t make him a very complete player

Itā€™s senior day? Why not FSU?

Because more people can come to a noon Saturday game.

Saturday noon better than 9pm Tuesday?

Yeah I got that. I just thought it was always last home game of season regardless of timing.

Itā€™s done this way with a lot of other sports as well to make it easier for families to travel and attend.

Especially considering where Taineā€™s family has to come from.
