All I know is that Juan Dixon is no longer the coach
Is his ex-wife still on Real Housewives?
Oh, good question. My knowledge of this stuff ended with Kenny Andersons wife being on the Real World
Coppin State went 2-27 last season, is ranked 362nd out of 365 teams on Kenpom and lost to High Point by 42. Wake went 9-37 from 3, shot 11-23 from the FT line and still beat them by 15.
If we win this one by less than 20 (barring a meltdown from our green team) I’d be pretty disappointed.
So why are we playing them? Seems like a meaningless exercise.
I know all the reasons. But the reasons weren’t the reasons when we scheduled them.
Was she on the Potomac one? A younger Dragon may have done a 2 episode block of that
Where else are we goin to get wins?
I get it- but wins against Campbell and Coppin State don’t count unless we destroy them. You are right but it’s annoying. This is probably the year to play crappy teams before we get into the meat of the season.
Small wins over bad teams are better than getting boat raced by good ones. Especially given the mental fragility this program had had the last few years
Coppin state down 61-51 to rider with 1 minute left.
I’m trapped in the early 90’s philosophy. You’re probably right. But we always played good/great teams early. I have got to evolve. Like Haney Dragon and Fresh stubbornness better. But could go either way. Or we double down and post irrational stuff. Leaning Haney/Fresh/Dragon at this moment.
Yall had some cupcakes on there too
1990
Opened with Sienna, Nola over the Thanksgiving break, Winthrop after that
89 it was Northeastern, Marshall, Samford
Dont annoy with me research. It’s way better to re-create the past than it is to address the current situation. But we did play in the great Alaskan shootout and a bunch of big East ACC challenges.
True
Comment about the Campbell game - I am finally finishing the last ten minutes of the 2H. I have a couple thoughts, and if anything additive (a first time for everything, I suppose…) I’ll put in the Cuts thread.
But my main comment – what an awful entertainment product! Main culprit is all the random replay stoppages. Let me be the millionth person to say: someone needs to figure this replay stuff out in a way that they are fundamentally selling an entertainment product. Keep the thing moving. Then, it was just choppy in general. Felt like a lot of timeouts, a lot of fouling, and not much game flow. There was just not much uninterrupted actual up and down hoops.
Okay one hoops thought - Cofie clearly needs some work on the defensive side. But he mostly just needs to dig in a bit more. Figure out where to be. Realize that you need to guard quickly at this level. On one hand – totally fixable! On the other – it is a bit of a mindset adjustment, which some great athletes don’t always make cleanly.

We’re not doing a game preview for this one. The headline is just that Coppin State appears to be pretty bad. Currently ranked as the next to last team in D1 on Mr. Pomeroy’s site. They’re 0-3, managing to keep it within 20 at Wake, then were blown out at High Point, and lost at home by double digits to Rider. They haven’t shot above 35% from the field or better than 25% from three in any game.
As is typical for MEAC teams, they don’t have much size, and will sometimes play with four guards. They don’t use anyone over 6’8. The only name you might recognize is Peter Oduro, a George Mason transfer and younger brother of Josh. He’s the starting center. Their leading scorer is 6’6" guard Derrius Ward on an inefficient 15 PPG, the only player averaging over 8.
I think this tracks with some evaluators saying he needed to be locked in throughout the whole game. A few times he kind of just jogged over to his guy and lazily raised an arm.
It’s one downside of no TB this season bc he definitely could have shored up that aspect of his game (if he got minutes).
Edit: Kenpom has UVA -24 according to @haney
- UVA covers
- UVA doesn’t cover
