Iām fully prepared to face the wrath. One game does not a coach make.
Fuck Duke. Scheyer has a muppet mouth- he eats apples like they are skittles.
My Top 3 Questions:
-
Knowing we canāt match up with them man to man, and everyone who has tried has basically lost for the last two months, do we do anything different defensively? A zone? Token trapping? My guess is no.
-
Does TJP get a courtesy minute or two against his former team? My guess is no.
-
Can Scheyer fit a whole grapefruit in his mouth. My guess is yes.
- Same Starting Lineup
- Start A Rob
- Start Saunders
Assumed this poll is our preference rather than our prediction.
yeah preference. I assume theyāll start the same.
Robinson on Cooper Flagg? It felt like he was our best Tobi Lawal defender (of course no actual idea who was, stat nerds get on it)
Am I crazy for having a feeling that we will win?
Yes, but thatās ok.
Duke is favored by 15.5. Sounds about right. The talent differential is pretty stark. I mainly want to see the guys play with heart. But I fully expect the Dukies to be their usual obnoxious selves, especially Scheyer. What a douche.
Wrote a little on it but Iām hoping they start Blake and ARob with Blake starting on Flagg. I bet theyāll throw some different looks at him, including Saunders, but I think Blake has the best combo of size/being able to move some to match up here. That said Flagg is really, really goodā¦
Not sure how itāll look in the backcourt. Proctor has been shooting it well and Sion is a very capable shooter he just generally doesnāt have the volume. I think their length will cause some issues tooā¦ iMac will have to continue to be super aggressive. If you have an opening take it no need to play for the ābestā shot against a team with length and athleticism like thisā¦ wouldnāt hurt if Dai Dai can cook again.
Interested to see how our switch everything plays out.
Duke is going to work to get Flagg on the biggest mismatch each time and will get him the ball or get a foul call on the defender.
Bought tickets for the game today! Iām staying til the bitter end regardless
Was thinking the same thing. I hold my breath every time we get Dai Dai or IMac on a 6ā10 big in the paint. @Cuts_from_The_Corner , got any thoughts?
From what Iāve seen half of Dukeās offense this year is just a top of the key ballscreen with either Flagg/Kon or Flagg/Maluach, and theyāre either getting Flagg downhill or have him in an iso with someone whose not supposed to be guarding him switched on. That was like 90% of what K ran against us in 2019 when they had Zion and RJ Barrett.
I also think weāre gonna need Robinsonās size and athleticism in the paint to try and prevent Maluach from dominating the boards in general.
Depends on how fast the double teams come. Flagg has outside-in ability to create mismatches but most of those switches are still more disadvantaged inside. All bigs are going to try to exploit the matchup against, say, Ames for the most part, even if Flagg would do so more efficiently - itās still an area youād need help. I think the issue will more be having the awareness and quickness to get that double and then making sure the player who comes can stay with him if he pulls it back out.
Iām trying to get Cofie on him as much as possible if we can.
Thanks. Thatās my biggest fear with this game is that Duke can persistently exploit mismatches and we canāt counter fast enough or strong enough with double-teams.
Iām going to be rooting as hard as ever, but this is going to be a heavy lift for these young kids. Still, would be so great for them to pull off the upset after everything that theyāve been through.
