šŸ€ Virginia vs Duke, L, 80-62, 13-13 (7-8 ACC), Monday, 17 February 2025, 2000, ESPN

Iā€™m most worried about our guards being able to defend.

That an any minutes where weā€™re playing Saunders and Blake 4-5 which Iā€™m convinced is our worst commonly used frontcourt option.

*I say ā€œworriedā€ Iā€™m not actually very worried because Iā€™m not expecting it to be very competitive - but thatā€™s where I think weā€™ll feel the most pain.

Yeah Duke is annoyingly good this year, especially on defense.

I think if thereā€™s any justification to us having a chance in this one, itā€™s that Scheyerā€™s teams donā€™t play at a particularly fast pace, at least compared to Kā€™s squads. That at least gives some chance of us making it a low possession slugfest and hopefully getting hot enough from 3 to stay in it. Finding a way to get Maluach in foul trouble would also help us quite a bit, was a major key for Clemson in their win over Duke.

I wouldnā€™t change the starting lineup for this game. Starting ARob would be just asking the refs to call 2 fouls on him in the first minute.

Looks like a profound mismatch one on one.

Wanna see a lot of Taine tonight and we proly see him guarding 1-4 at somepoint

Agree on early fouls. ARob off the bench please

For some reason I donā€™t think itā€™ll be a game Duke wins in the 12-18 range.

I think they win by 25+, or it comes down to the last possession or so.

I like that Duke plays slow. We still could get destroyed, but that creates the possibility to win a shot making contest. Itā€™s how Clemson beat them

Hope someone has been showing these to IMac Clockwork Orange style.

An old friend runs a youth basketball league in New England (and if his son keeps growing he might one day get a shoutout from Hooandtrue), and heā€™d been telling me for years about this kid from Maine who was crazy good but he never mentioned the kidā€™s name (or maybe he did, but I wasnā€™t paying close enough attention).

Finally, he was like ā€œOh, you might get a chance to watch him play, he just committed to Dukeā€. I was like ā€œHoly shit, youā€™ve been trying to tell me about Cooper Flagg all this time?!?ā€ I could have known about him before he was cool, but I wasnā€™t paying close enough attention.

Damn, I loved Joe Harris. I would always say, ā€œPut the franchise tag on Joe. Heā€™s a good player, can finish in traffic/with contact, and was a gamer.ā€ Will always be thankful for Joe. He was part of the beginning. And who can forget that famous pickup truck he hadā€¦

You raise a solid point. I didnā€™t have to go through ā€œOh wow, this kid is so goodā€ only to watch him spiral into the fires of Hell/Duke. I saved myself some heartache thanks to my inattentiveness.

Fun poll for this game tonight.
If you could pick 5 starters from the CTB era to win this game tonight against Duke, who would you pick?

Everyone has their faves so you can just do that too - but base it on beating this Duke team.

Iā€™ll go first and Iā€™m picking the version of them I would want.

Reece 2024
Ty 2019
Brogs 2016
Gill 2016
Huff 2021

Can I pick the '25 NBA versions of Ty and Trey?

Nope - no pro versions allowed - just CTB players as they were in college.

Duke is going to beat the shit out of UVA tonight. Ron Sanchez is still going to get the job. Hate all you want.

Right. I think you live with giving up paint points to their bigs.

What canā€™t happen is letting them 1) go off for three or 2) letting guards get downhill and putting our bigs in early foul trouble

Already an uphill battle, but feel like if Blake or Cofie get in early foul trouble things will meltdown quickly.
