Dude shot 257 3s at a 45.5% clip and never took a 2 that season. Took 11 2s in his entire 4 year career.
I said it was recent because I remember discussion about it. I thought it was in the last few years, at least post-pandemic. But no. NINE years ago! How have the years gone by so fast?

Other than the championship run and the years before it where we just dominated teams, watching Staples was the most fun I ever had watching UVA hoops.
Just watching him run his ass off trying to get open for a fraction of a second, which of course was all he needed.

This was my 3rd year. @haneyās too. @jazznutUVAās 2nd.
Jeff Jonesā last season because the team was bad, guys who should have been Juniors on that team got kicked out and Jonesā personal stuff.
But imagine Staples and Nolan starting with Melvin Whitaker and Courtney Alexander and probably Hand to play PG. Maybe Courtney could play the point and Dersch starts instead.
But those 6 plus Ducharme and some combo of Monte Marcacchini (might not have transferred in), Chezley Watson, Scott Johnson and Daryl Pressley. Chase Metheny, Kris Hunter (probably would not have committed) and Craig McAndrew (probably would not have committed) buried on the bench.
I think thatās almost definitely a second weekend or better team that season.

Whenever I see the word ābouncyā to describe a playerā¦ I immediately think of Curtis Staples. He may not be the ābouncyā that they are trying to describe, but he reminded me of Tigger from the Winnie the Pooh cartoonsā¦ loved Staplesā¦

I forgot Jones was there in 97, Gillen started in 98 with the Watson/Mason recruiting class. Ignore the rest, you just taught me why we were short with players being dismissed.
Hereās the T-Rank top 10 or so of 3P Rate in a season, with a minimum of 10 3PA per 100 possessions (to filter out the guys who havenāt shot much):
Hooper is the only guy with 0 2PA, though a couple of guys got close.

The 1 attempt season was his 2020-21 season, I think. He still took a very small number of 2s his last season, just not quite as low.

Dillon Avare made a 2 point jumper after getting a rebound with 5 seconds left, his team down 4. This may have been a foot on the line situation.

OK, season before against the same team. Teammate grabbed an offensive rebound, Ahale missed a layup with 6:19 left in the 1st half.
