Also I question Tony all the time. Woke up this morning and thought “What the fuck was Tony thinking playing Minor at the end there when we could have broken 80 pts?”
And Ty had scored in double figures 6 times and had shot above 50% 5 times vs zero times for Rohde.
And it was 38 assists to 20 assists after 14 games.
All in 3 minutes fewer per game than Rohde.
We have the 9th best team A/TO ratio in the country and the 9th best offensive turnover rate. You take away Rohde and you lose that advantage, and that elite passing and ball security is the only thing keeping our offense afloat. Maybe you want to sub him out for someone who draws more fouls, as our FT rate is holding our offense back, but I’d say great passing can set up just as many opportunities to draw whistles (by hitting a cutter in stride or feeding a big man with position) as would a downhill-oriented guard off the bounce. Not sure anyone you’d sub in for Rohde would fix our O-Reb issues. Yeah maybe Bond or Gertrude would be better scoring at the rim or the mid-range, but there’s a clear tradeoff in that defenses don’t have to honor either as a shooter; Rohde at least commands a defender wherever he parks himself.
Maybe Rohde is a minus defender, but when the team defense is still Top 10 nationally despite so little imcumbent Pack Line experience as well as moderate injury concerns through the first two months of the year, I’m not inclined to nitpick defense.
No pass to Buchanan is a botched assist. Just a botched decision.
Lol
Yeah okay Dave I said I wasn’t saying Rohde is better than Jerome. Im saying he’s an absolute playmaker that we need on the floor, especially since Tony values having 2 on the floor together.
Not really the conversation being had.
I only brought up Jerome cause Dfresh brought him up in terms of comparing playmakers and elite vision.
Make it what you want man.
It’s obvious you’re in love with the guy regardless of production.
This team needs efficient scoring from the 3 spot. Period. He hasn’t done that at all.
It’s fine that he’s a good passer. But he also passes up way too many shots inside 10 feet to pass to someone else.
And Yes Rohde on a team with scorers could pass all day. Not what this team needs from that spot.
Name another guy in the country or even Acc that’s 29
Minutes a game and shooting 34/30/30???
Interrupting this debate… real quick. Did I hear correctly that Taine’s parents were at the game last night? If so, that’s awesome
lol Im in love with multiple facilitators. Me and Tony have that in common. You are in love with gassing up Boston College so get off me with the clown shit LOL. You have to have that self-awareness and realize that any preconceived biases you think I have, you are also displaying your love for Taine and hate for Rohde.
but but but … [points aggressively at all of the production @Hooandtrue just cited]
We have the 171st ranked offense in the country.
We need scoring from all the guards because we have zero at the 5.
Imho
And Tony’s offense is designed for the 3rd guard to be a scorer … always has been. So it’s even more important at UVA.
Maybe move Rohde to 6th man and start another wing who wants to score.
Maybe semantics, but in our offense, he’s not the 3, he’s the 2, and Isaac’s the 3.
I don’t hate anybody… I like putting guys on the floor that produce what the Hoos need as constructed.
Rohde hasn’t earned 29 minutes a game. That’s all.
Play him a bit less - is that too harsh?
Got it. I think Ty’s team lost 3 games that year
Also Leon and Taine have been assisted a lot/are dependent on facilitators. If you want to argue that Taine and Bond should play more, then that means coming at the expense of McKneely.
I do pray for you Dave. It’s pretty clear that Rohde playing a lot frustrates you. But at the same time it’s pretty clear that Rohde does a lot of what Tony values and that’s not changing.
Our biggest issue on offense is that we have needed additional playmaking. The solution isn’t to play one of the playmakers less.
Yup because of this part
Unless you wanna argue freshman Buchanan is better than Salt/Mamadi and you’d rather have Reece and McKneely than Guy Hall Hunter. Nothing wrong with that
Correct. Also will be following the team to NC State this weekend.
I hope you’re not bashing BB lol. Dude has had his freshman bumps but every freshman does. I still remember my first college practice/open gym. That’s a whole new world and especially for him since he’s at a high level school. Give him time and let him develop
I’m the biggest Jerome fan ever and I’m honestly not sure he’s a better passer than Rohde
Yeah and Ty had 8 games in his first 14 that year when he shot 50% or better from three land.
Opened up the floor for everyone.
Hey - Ty scored in double figures 11 of his last 14 games that year - let’s hope Rohde can catch fire too… if I remember right he went on a nice shooting spree his last 10-12 games last year right?
I must be completely missing something then. My bad
Just a meta point: these exercises are really damn hard because when we think about Ty our minds naturally go to his final year, and especially the tourney run, torching everyone.
It’s hard to recall what games were like when he was partway through his second season. But that should be the point of comparison, to @Hooandtrue’s point earlier. Mentally, it’s just tough to get back into that place without watching a bunch of old games. Best we can do are point in time stats which don’t give the full feel or picture.
