I think last night was the first time Ron coached to not lose. Went to a shortened lineup and adjusted to match up as opposed to enforcing our will on an inferior opponent. It was like the fact that they wouldnât roll over terrified him of catching a LâŚ
I wouldâve liked to see more attacking the basket with the bigs like they were doing early. Also wouldâve liked to see more TJP minutes and atleast a couple Sharma & ARob minutes.
Whatâs confusing about that was the lack of going back to TJP after what (my opinion, atleast) were 6 pretty good minutes out of him. Knocked down a nice look and played atleast passable defense. Heck even had active hands and got a steal.
Itâll be interesting to see what they do against a similar Holy Cross team. They start 5â10â then basically all 6â6â guys. Will he feel the need to run the guard heavy lines again?
If the intent is to play Rohde and McKneely together, then two of Buchanan, Saunders, Cofie, and Power have to get a lot of reps together managing the rotations, which last night meant more time for three of them.
Having two perimeter defenders who routinely get beat baseline (or wing) 1x1 requires lots of rotational help, and theyâve got to get that down before Florida and Memphis if they want to be competitive.
Dick Bennett put it in his contract with WSU that Tony would be the HC when Dick retired. Tony tried to do the same thing, but was rebuffed. WSU was more desperate when they were negotiating to pull Dick Bennett out of retirement.
I mean you gotta give him more time than 6 games. He probably shouldnât have been starting to start the year and was much better in his few minutes off the bench (they were early first half, not like heâs fallen out of rotation). Build on that and build him up.
While I think Tony had a pretty good eye at identifying talent, thus, being followed on the offer trail by Self, Shyer the Shyt, he missed on a few as well. How many guys on our roster would see minutes other places?
