I love Virginia basketball
Only have caught the abbreviated game, but DDās D is the worst I have seen from a UVa guard in a looooong time. He gets beat off the dribble at the point of attack, floats underneath screens, and sorta just coasts, forcing the rest of the team to start scrambling. I am very underwhelmed by him (plus he likes mid-range jumpers - the ultimate LRA insult).
Dai Daiās defense isnāt awesome but heās already exceeded my expectations by a lot. He brings confidence as a three level scorer, right now at 47% from 3 on the season and 91% at the line. Also one of the only guys to get into the teeth of the defense and score, draw a foul, or try and make a play out of it.
Not hard to improve from 28% to 30%.
Hilarious⦠Kenny Smith made a pretty good career of side spinning his shot⦠like first team All American maybe?
Reggie Miller had terrible form.
World B Free. Norm Nixon.
Not everyone can be Klay or Ray.
Correct
Ummm Jamall Wilkes
Iām rewatching this, and Gallagher wore a three piece suit? Okay, thatās a little try-hard.
Love Dai Dai. His defense will improve. Heās got that toughness too that more of our guys need.
Ultimately, kind of a weird choppy game. Never in doubt, really, but never really in hand, either.
- They took and made a lot of 3s, which is why they kept it close. Is that variance? On the packline principles? On our generally meh athleticism? Yes, yes, yes, IMO.
- They also tried to play fast and turned it over a lot and we generally capitalized.
- Itās the kind of game I wouldnāt have been surprised by this summer, at a macro level: I thought weād have a competent+ offense and a questionabel defense. But we got there in a wacky way.
- Will read Cutsā¦
- Okay, bonus thought. Stop yelling at Clare Aubry (John Gallagher, UVa front row bros whining about calls, and anyone else)
Putting the Manhattan in Manhattan University*
*in the Bronx
Okay, bonus bonus: Cofie guarding their PG from the arc and blocking the shot! Nice!
35% from 2 pt range.
Well good thing he takes 40% of his shots from three (hitting 47%) and is 92% from the free throw line.
Exactly - we are in agreement he should take more 3s, less long 2s
Yeah it was obvious Gallagher complained more to the female ref than the others.
And then Ames giving up the offensive rebound because they didnāt communicate a switch backā¦
Yeh, true. But you can teach better communication. You canāt teach ability to defend a guard from the arc and block a shot at the rim.
True!
It was also obvious to this official she was by far the worst official on the floor. She literally invented four calls during the game, putting a whistle on things that didnāt happen
