I’d probably give Memphis 10 points. That line seems very low given the difference in guards between the 2 teams. Hope Vegas is right. Would love to see a close game.

Well advanced metrics have it at a 1-2 point game. So Vegas is building in a few points with the assumption that we are worse and Memphis is better.

I was thinking that this will be our first (almost) “peer-level” game of the season at home, and maybe we’d surprise everyone with our home-court advantage. But then I reflect on last week’s game…

Going on a tangent here, feel free to ignore.
The 2020-21 season was a natural experiment of a sort, and home court advantage diminished a little but was still present (chart included near the end of this article):
But I also read some stuff that suggested that home court advantage comes mostly from referee decision-making, and that crowd size is associated with that.

Playing in your own gym, waking up in your own bed, normal routine, etc, still worth something.
I wonder if home court diminishes over time because of the professionalization of the sport (better travel, better travel routine, guys used to it from AAU) and the improvement in refereeing (so less influenced by home crowd).
Won’t go to zero, but that chart seems to show it diminishing.

It diminishing for those reasons makes sense for me. Though I wonder if this era of spread out conferences will have a bit of a countervailing wind due to travel…this gets talked about in the NBA much more, of course.
