Quick turn away game. Let’s hope we can scheme more open shots for iMac and every player shoots 500 FTs today and tomorrow.

I keep forgetting that Jhavon is on Memphis…

Also just realised. 2 former Hudson Catholic HS players squaring off. From Jersey City Jhavon and Eli. (And we wanted em both)

Pretty cool

Most, if not all, of Memphis’ rotation wouldn’t still be playing in college except for the extra Covid year.

We need to be ready for the full court press. I watched their game against Texas A&M and they were wrecking havoc on the A&M guards.

Dante back?

Smells a bit like what happened to us at Houston 2 years ago. Memphis looks physical, athletic, motivated and tough minded. Our team is not constructed to deal with them on the glass or in the paint. My kingdom for two hard assed rebounding machines.

But they are also pretty undisciplined, and they don’t really play through their size.

Very dependent on Jones and Quinerly playmaking which plays right into the match ups vs Reece and Dunn.

I would say this is our 2nd or 3rd toughest game left behind @ Duke and on par with @ Clemson. Win this one, and we are in real good shape heading into conf play with likely 3 Q1 wins.

The Wins-Above-Bubble ratings on Torvik agree with you. A win at Memphis is currently worth 0.59 WAB, at Clemson is 0.67, at Duke is 0.69.

Memphis is only a slightly above average offensive rebounding team (even after the rough adjustment for opponent strength that you can look at on the Torvik team pages), Northeastern has been a better offensive rebounding team than them so far this season. I think our rebounding has stabilized; we’ve played a tough strength of schedule in terms of offensive rebounding so the overall average still looks rough for us, but the trend is in the right direction.

Must be pretty cool for Elijah to play against a guy who was starring for Hudson Catholic back when Elijah was still in pre-K.

That Houston team was natty caliber though**. This Memphis team would be thrilled to get to the second game, never mind the second weekend.

** To be fair, I wouldn’t have thought that at the time

Despite the fact that conventional wisdom would suggest these teams should play a close game, I don’t think it’s going to be close. That said, I have no idea who will win, but my gut feeling is that somebody ends up winning comfortably.

If they smother us on the perimeter with their athleticism and can turn us over, and we can’t make any perimeter shots, we’ll probably get drubbed.

On the flip side, however, if we take care of the ball, make some shots, and force them to play a half-court grinder for 40 minutes, I could see them getting frustrated and us pulling away and winning by double digits.

Anyway, just my $0.02.

Just heard Goodman say that Tomlin is still getting over an injury. So even less likely he plays on Tuesday

He was still pretty hobbled at the game yesterday… but hoo knows?

Yeah, he was limping pretty badly. See no chance he plays Tuesday.

this is how I imagine the first ten minutes usually going for UVA’s roadgames against decent teams where we have like 4 points 9 minutes in
