Huge game. 2nd vs 3rd in the ACC, court dedication, UVA playing for 8 straight wins. Pressure’s on high for the first time since UNC.
Luckily I think we match up well against Miami. I like that they’re coming off of three straight huge wins, the last two of which were 1 point games. They should be exhausted at this point, while we just had a cruise control game against GT.
Some tidbits on Miami looking at their Torvik page:
- balanced defensive and offensive efficiency
- VERY good rebounding team on the season, although their offensive rebounding has dipped a bit over last 10 games. They have good size all around.
- They don’t foul
- Their 3P shooting on season is meh, and over last 10 games it’s been putrid, but they don’t take many (they rank 335th in 3P rate)
- Over last 10 they are averaging almost 59% from 2.
- They’ve had a ton of close games as of late. Average game margin 3.5 points over last 5 games.
Watched a lot of the Miami / VT game and they didn’t impress me. Was the Tre Donaldson show and VT had no answers. Don’t see him replicating that performance against us. Reneau was hurt so they probably played a role in Miami looking poorly, but felt like they had a lot of aimless passing around the perimeter and would settle for jump shots.
I think this’ll come down to coaching, and I think Odom is a much better game planner than Lucas, who strikes me as more of a recruiter (though maybe that’s my anti Duke bias)
This game should also have massive implications for ACC COTY
An important aspect of Miami’s team that I don’t think anyone has mentioned, is that they quite literally have no bench. Their starters generally play 35+ minutes each. Our constant subbing, and different lineups, should be a problem defensively, and they will likely wear down as the game progresses…just as Odom’s system is designed to do. They can get away with these minute distributions with most teams, but with us it is going to be a problem, I think.
Randolph Childress mentioned that they will likely go to a zone in an attempt to slow the game and take some stress off of their starters.
Strength of Schedule for Acc teams:
Miami last
Virginia 4th to last
Interesting
Well we haven’t played Duke, ourselves, Miami, or Clemson, so I’m not shocked
What are the SORs? Committee uses that stastic as more indicative of performance.
But I know you just hate the team.
Edit: I’ll help you. Virginia: 9 (elite), Miami: 32.
Maybe this is more informative.
Rah rah team go team yay!!!
2 4 6 8 Hoo do we appreciate???
SOR??? That is what matters…we have 4 Q1A wins on the ROAD; Miami has nothing like that.
You are being an ass, and you clearly cherry pick bad statistics in an attempt to make us look worse than we are. You know that you do it. You do it on purpose.
SOR. Discuss?
Just to answer the question, uva is #13 SOR and Miami is #29 SOR.
You’re absolutely right on this. Of course, the guys getting all those minutes are pretty good, but it should allow Odom to scheme to stop just two guys and make the rest of the team try to beat us.
Miami averages 82.9 pts. Reneau and Donaldson combine for 36.1, while Henderson and Washington chip in 25.8. If Odom can take a page from his second half adjustments against OSU’s Thornton and slow down Reneau and Donaldson, Miami will have a tough time getting the points elsewhere.
Which is, I think, a better metric than SOS if you are looking at one in isolation. I suspect Miami’s changed pretty significantly last week? We didn’t have the same opportunities, unfortunately.
Yep. I think we willvwear them down some with our physicality, press, overall defense, and depth. Some of the losses they have taken they had 65 or fewer points.
Their starters are beasts. It’s going to be a war inside. Can’t wait!
Now you’re name calling? Wow WB… I’m not patient with those who try to tell other fans how to fan or what to post or opine… everyone has opinions or data to share and it is all interesting to me …. You want us all to agree?
Booooring! ![]()
Everyone has their own filter when they see information… Your filter told you that when I posted strength of schedule data that I was dissing our team….
When in fact it was merely a frustration for me that we haven’t played many top games… Basketball is entertainment for me and I like to be entertained by top matchups… for example, the Celtics played at Golden State last night and in a vacuum, I was about to be entertained greatly… But instead, Steph Curry didn’t play and it made the game a lot more boring as the Celtics were up by 30 at one point and cruised to an easy win… Some Celtics fans liked that because hey, easy win… For me, I wanted to be entertained by a better matchup and by one of the greatest players of all time against my team…… similarly, I wanted Brown to play when we played against Louisville because I wanted to be entertained by a great matchup against a team with a great player
So yes I love the wins… 23-3 is awesome!
At the same time we haven’t played a team currently in the top 25 NET all year … and yes I don’t count a Louisville squad that is 4-4 without Brown - nowhere near a Top 25 team…
Include them is fine too - that would be 1 game out of 26 vs a top 6 seed caliber team in the madness.
Caveat - Heels played like a top 20 team against us and were at the time. While the loss stunk that was high level basketball.
I simply enjoy high level basketball.![]()
We have 1 more game against a top 25 team and I really look forward to that one as a test for our guys.
I know this wasn’t the point of your posts I’m venturing off a little but it is a little wild the number of teams we’ve played who had guys missing…
Definitely one of the points - like what’s up with that all season?
