One of these is not like the others… let’s not pretend he was… simply opportunity

Sauce with the scoop! Good stuff my guy.

I felt better? About watching the team last night. Lewis, White, TDR and Chance all getting and making multiple 3’s felt nice. Malik still in a bit of a funk but I feel good about him figuring it out. I really enjoyed the 2 bigs looks we gave some. I think they’re talented enough to play together.

Building the 30+ point leads to me is more important than letting them drop back ton18+ point leads… like Cuts and others have said it’s hard to keep focus when you’re rolling like that. I wasn’t very impressed with how we handled the zone but it’s also week 1 and we have time to improve on that.

This tweet from Ahmad Thomas tells me staff probably realizes the same thing and they’re going to get to work.

It’s as though this team hasn’t played a lot of games together. :slightly_smiling_face:

Honestly time is the only thing we need. They’ll figure it out!

The handwringing about handwringing is over the top. So I’m gonna handwring about that. Kick it up another level.

I mean… on rewatch - it’s mostly just needing to practice against the zone more (specifically, the big turning and looking at the rim when they catch in the high post - and working to get it inside more often) and then defensive communication issues. A sprinkle of trying to do too much and/or being too nonchalant, at times, and some subpar FT shooting.

Nothing about this game would give me any real questions or worries at this point in the season. These are the kinds of things that would need to be sustained trends for a considerable number of games for me to think there are obstacles to cleaning it up other than time, repetition, chemistry.

Guess what? I’m now wringing hands about your hand wringing.

Sorry to say: you’ve been hand WROUGHT.

As one of the “hand wringers” maybe the few (we few, we happy (ok, not so happy) few, we band of brothers) are overwrought bedwetters. But, in the immortal words of Steve Martin, “Well, EXCUUUUUUSE MEEEEE!”

Of course, it probably will get better with time and practice, but dismissing legit observations about sloppy play, poor FT shooting, porous defense, etc. with “but look at the 10 minutes they played great” seems a bit too reliant on the rose (ok orange) colored glasses. Even Pete Gillen’s teams played great for stretches in games, but at the end the product was bad. I have a lot of hope for Odum and the team, am pretty sure that I’m usually a positive person when it comes to the team, and don’t think this team will lose their legs as so,often happened back then, but it’s not a stretch to say that the first two cupcake games have revealed issues - addressable issues, but issues nonetheless.

Looking forward to Tuesday to see how some of them get addressed and show improvement that most seem certain will manifest.

Gonna turn the tables on all you “we played like a top 25 team for 10 minutes, and I choose to hand wave the other 30 minutes and call those of you who don’t ignore them whiners” folks. So buckle up.

Guess what the opponent 2p% was in the 10 Yogo Grunyensoloh defensive possessions? If you guessed zero (0), then you were correct.

So if we play that lineup for every possession, the other team will not score any twos. 50% on threes, but you take the good with the bad.

Who’s the starry-eyed optimist now? That’s right, your ol’ pal Haney.

No biggies, but gifs and pics are broken for me since the update yesterday.

Also, I’m watching these Yogo possessions, and we are still playing 5-out with both of them in the game! Awesome!

It was surprisingly effective on offense. And on defense it was more or less like putting a kicking net in front of the basket. Haugh-Condon 2.0, except taller?

Odom did say in the post game that you can’t get carried away playing them together too much, because they would end up playing too long of stretches. It has to be limited to around play stoppages. But I got the impression it was something he really would like to do if practical.
