I want to apologize in advance: I’m bringing 6 buddies to the game, 5 of whom went to grad school with me at Syracuse and will be rooting for them. The 6th is a Purdue fan.

I haven’t seen much of Syracuse this season but I’m puzzled as to why their record isn’t better. There’s a lot of raw talent on that team and we better bring out A-game Saturday.

This is fine. Grad school rooting is like “oh, hey, cool. Whatever.” Until your team is in the final 4 and then you’ll have been a die hard all along.

1-5 in games decided by 1 possession or in OT. Probably because they make UVA look like a great FT shooting team.

Well, one guy is a Syracuse lifer. But yeah, the rest don’t care. Mostly going as an excuse to drink beer in a cabin.

It seems to be by far their biggest issue right now. They are currently 63% from the line this year, and even in their last win (against ND), they only made 57%

Assorted thoughts:
- Cuse on offense is pretty transition-heavy, though they aren’t an efficient team in transition
- They are three-averse on offense, they want to be at the rim
- Their defensive shot chart is similar to their offensive shot chart; they take away threes and those turn into rim attempts against them.
- They have a pretty good half-court defense, but are really vulnerable in transition and second-shot situations
- Relatedly, they are a bad offensive and defensive rebounding team; offensive rebounds are where we have the biggest matchup advantage
- They are a good block rate team but mediocre rim protection team; again, teams getting 2nd chance points is probably the reason for that discrepancy
- They are lacking depth - Freeman/George/Kingz are all quality players, but there’s drop-off beyond them, and their freshmen (Anthony and White) have been minuses performance-wise.

Their defense efficiency has really tanked since the new year. 113rd overall in DE since Jan. 1. Since Jan. 15, around the time they started stacking losses, their defensive efficiency has been 145th overall (ours is 111th during same time frame, so grain of salt …)

It’s Donovan Freeman and Sadiq White (redshirt +2 year contract) audition day.
Could very well lose this game. Donovan Freeman is a beast and would be high on my list to replace De Ridder if not for his extensive injury history.

Ooof is it freezing like it is in NOVA? Might be a deterrent
