🏀 Virginia vs Villanova (exh.), Friday, 24 October 2025, 1900, ACCNX

Will add I do wish we had better pg play. Hopefully that comes with Hall better learning this roster and Chance adjusting to college ball.

Acaden Lewis is the best pg in this team. And hopefully when Gertrude is more along his recovery he can consistently give us what Palmer is doing for Villanova (attacking the rim/providing some explosiveness)

Agree. If defense is going to be a mess and we foul so much, offense ineeds to hum. Think we can still play a lot faster as well.

I think Askew and Lindsay are 2 of their best players

Really nice move by Thomas.

We are a running team now. Unafraid to get down the court fast.

It’s so obvious Gertrude is our best perimeter defender

Tillis has done a good job standing his ground in the paint a couple times so far.

This is so fun

Askew is a meme. idk why the pre-game broadcast brought him up. Lindsey is a catch and shoot guy but guys like Palmer and Christian that athletic pg have higher ceilings

Shot it still a work in progress but Eli looks like Eli. Love his energy

Yep. My second hot take is Gertrude should be ahead of Lewis (who I really wanted to be good) in the pecking order.

You say that like we already know he’s not good and I think he just looks unsure of his role.

Need to define roles. Can’t have two thirds of players role be miscellaneous shooter and push the ball in transition

Lewis is invisible. Ugo is not as clean a defensive rebounder as he should be for his height. Pg play and perimeter defense our biggest hurdles.

But man is the offense flowing at times and the press has had moderate success. Would like to see Malik and Grünloh assert themselves more. And hopefully less standing around at times (but that might just be where we are as a team in October).

And yeah defense is gross rn

Only one half but this is about what I expected. We can shoot the shit out of the ball, have bigs that can space the floor, good size at each position, but we’re struggling a bit to beat them one on one and on the other end giving up too much space in the lane.

And again, it’s an exhibition. We’re running super vanilla sets on both ends of the floor and doing so with some absolutely funky lineups. Can’t really take away too much from these things.

BUT the highs are electric, give me moreeeee

Phew. Gonna take some adjusting to watch a defense like this. It was really rough. Going to guess that’s just a familiarity issue and will take some time, but I see some rough patches early in the season.

We’re going to have to score a ton of points

Just an observation from the stands (well, I have many); Eli was limping some near the end of the half. Also, Chance will eventually start; no doubt.

Will add that Im thankful UNC and Duke both only have 1 legitimate guard and are trying to use wing army’s which should be easier for us to guard in theory (as opposed to 3 playmaking guards on the perimeter)
