šŸˆ Virginia vs Wake Forest, Saturday, 8 November 2025, 1900, ESPN

Really hope Scott is full on Saturday. It’s a 7:00 kickoff and the weather should be decent. Top 15 team working on potentially the best regular season in school history. No excuses for not showing up and being loud.

Chandler Morris wants you to be there.

(Although, it does seem like he forgot he was supposed to encourage non-student fans to show up as well and tacked it on at the end real quick. )

General football question, but last week’s failed fake FG attempt got me wondering- why don’t we have a more athletic (sorry, Daniel Sparks) player holding on field goals? Wouldn’t someone like Davis Lane (former dual-threat QB) make more sense in that spot? I assume there’s a good reason, but I’m not a huge X’s and O’s guy

Great question. Schaub as holder in 2004 was big when we faked VT.

Every staff has their own reasons on who they pick.

Personally I like using a former QB who’s also taking reps on practice. They are used to catching and handling a ball in a tight spot and generally have quick hands.

It’s usually a practice time thing!

Saban always used backup QBs because he wanted the threat of fakes out there, but many gumps at the time blamed Bama’s kicking woes on them not getting enough practice time with the special teams units.

Punters have plenty of time to practice holding with the long snapper and kicker, back up QBs often don’t.

The Athletic named Sparks to their Top 100 list of football ā€œfreaks.ā€ From the writeup: ā€œOne of the ACC’s best punters looks and moves like an ACC power forward. Sparks, who averaged 44.6 yards per punt and had 25 percent of his kicks pinned inside the opponent’s 20 last season, is 6-6 1/2, 223 pounds. This offseason, he broad jumped 10-5 ½ and vertical jumped 33 1/2 inches. Only four DBs at this year’s combine ran faster than his 4.25-second shuttle time.ā€

Sparks: punter/TE/DB

Same thought. Don’t like how good I feel about this one…

Good call, I totally forgot about this- that shuttle time is insane

I didn’t mind Sparks taking the ball on the fake FG, but calling for a fake FG bothered me. If you wanted to go for it, I think you’d have had a better chance getting six yards with your actual offensive players on the field. I thought the fake was too cute.

I didn’t mind a fake per se but would have liked a run-pass option.

4th and 6 is a long way to go on a fake FG and even with that he damn near made it.

I get why some don’t like the call.

I liked it being aggressive in that spot with the way the D was playing i get it

So curious where Miami comes in. Could be anywhere from 10-18

Lindell Stone was the holder for most of the Bronco years. He was the backup/3rd QB. I don’t remember ever running a fake with him though.

CFP rankings reveal starting now on ESPN.

I was not aware of the fact that Carla is on the CFP committee this year.

Hoos are ranked 14th in the first CFP ranking of the season.

It’s hard to go across the country and win a football game and the win against Cal was very gutty. Seems like all the wins recently have been won on guts as execution has been off.

Would love to see the team put it together and execute for four quarters against Wake. I think winning at Duke is going to be very, very hard and we don’t beat VPI no matter who coaches or what group of deaf and blind one legged orphans they run out on the field. Need to get this win number 9 and I would feel pretty good about winning a bowl game with roughly 4 weeks for our guys to get healthy.

Who knows, maybe this is the year we don’t collapse against VPI.

Hoos are in the CFP if it were to end today. 11 seed vs Ole Miss.
