on the upside we arent GT fans…
24-42 196 2 picks… I would not call that fine. However you’re correct the defense was very bad. Special teams was poor. This is not a good team. There are massive holes throughout
He’s the backup playing from behind the whole time. I didn’t say he played great. You can’t hang the loss on him.
It takes a team effort to play that poorly and UVa was beaten in every facit of the game so yes the lost can be evenly shared
I don’t think the loss had much to do with our QB’s.
We gave up 40 points and 483 yards, to…Wake Forest (!) We’ve only forced one turnover in the past 3 games.
It’s no secret that we’re not getting the top college football prospects in the ACC area to even take official visits to UVa.
I have my theories as to why we can’t get them to even visit, but I’ll keep my thoughts to myself. I’ve been following UVa football for over 50 years (yes!) so…Wahoo Wah!
Its a part of a broken system. If the offense goea 3 and out and the punter duffs a short kick to put the defense on a short field then is just as much on the offense as it is the defense.
Again as I’ve now said 3 times on this thread the entire team played poorly. Stone played poorly its a fact look at the stats and the throws he was unable to complete. Nash duffed a punt that gave Wake a short field Delaney missed what should have been a chip shot. Grant got worked all game long including a massive whiff on Walkers long TD. Snowden has basicall been MIA all season. Agent Z 0 has been quiet since he got 15 tackles in week one.
Thw entire system is bad. And you’re very right Bill they are not getting top prospects to commit or even visit and Bronco and Co are good but tbey are miracle workers in development
I don’t think wake gets top prospects to visit, let alone commit, either
I have no explanation for the defense. I have some opinions but they are mine and based on just my own thoughts. Offense is a different matter. I believe we are seeing how much Perkins covered up the O game plan and play calling.
I wasn’t trying to hang the loss on him. Just wanted folks’ perspective on the QBs. Poor performance across the board.
Agree 100% last year was an anomaly. They had a weak schedule and beat rhe teams they were supposed to beat. And when they needed a big play there was a special athlete in Perkins who wanted that moment and made it happen.
Stats show Armstead was 1/3 for 9 yards… I think I recall him taking one end zone shot that was overthrown…
Roger that thought he may have taken a few but wasnt sure.
Penn State and Notre Dame just own the state of Virginia in football recruiting.
Penn State? It’s a great football school, but why would anyone want a degree from Penn State?
I have to ask this: Do you think that what the families of recruits in Virginia think about UVa, depends on what they think about Thomas Jefferson?
It’s actually shocking how many Virginia kids end up on rosters for non Va schools. PSU has always recruited well in Va hell Basham from Wake is a Va kid.
That’s an interesting take on Jefferson and recruiting. I’ve never heard anyone mention but maybe in our current climate it could. The PSU Sandusky scandal would carry far more weight.
I do wonder how Bronco is on recruiting trips. I’ve not interacted with him and only know a few kids who have. But that has been a problem fpr va coaches in the past
listen to the Terry Kirby podcast. Lots of Virginia guys wanted to stay home. No talk of TJ. It was all pride for the state
No doubt when Virginia is at it’s best they get the best from in state. Welsh was great at that in the 90s we all wanted to play in state and for UVa. I feel like that didn’t change until sometime during the Groh era.
So is Bronco the Brad Brownell of ACC football? Decent recruits and decent results but never great? For all the promise of the last couple of years, we still have lost at least five games every year.
I wouldn’t classify the classes we get as decent. We recruit at a mid to low 3-star level. It’s gotten better but it has a long way to go.
If you look at the class rankings, we should be at the bottom of the ACC.
I agree with @wahoowa12. The best “recruit” Bronco has brought in was Bryce and he was a transfer. The best ranked recruit may be Briggs who is good but not ground breaking.
Honestly I think this is what a Bronco led program does. The numbers at BYU are misleading. Being independent and setting your own schedule affords the luxury of opponents not having familiarity with you. When they were in a conference it wasn’t a good one. Add on to that BYU has a natural talent pool due to the Polynesian community and Mormon background that an East coast school cant duplicate and you have a situation where some things may not be what they seem. Bronco and his staff have never had to recruit like this in a power 5 that doesn’t have built in pipelines and your top recruits are also being heavily targeted by others. Lastly for all the talk on here about CTB being old school/out of touch or turning off recruits because of style of play etc. Bronco has every bit of that. I’m all for making players work amd earn but he takes it to an extreme and it’s micromanaged. I know I would not answer his call if he recuited me and I didnt habe ties to Uva already. I don’t think I’m alone ine that.
