dudes family is like midwest, east coast, west coast, make up your mind kid.
Wonāt be his last school, Iād bet money on it.
To be fair 10 ppg on 40+% from 3 and fg is pretty if not really good for an underclassman.
I didnāt say he was bad. Dai dai ok.
But if we have all this money, a new coach selling a new vision, and a wide open path to starting and then we donāt upgrade the roster, especially at a position that was a weak spot (I donāt care about stats, our pg play was bad even if rohde/dai dai had decent numbers), then wtf are we doing?
Said another way, if you just let everybody walk out the door from a meh at best roster and then replace them with worse players, then something aināt right. So we better be able to do better than dai dai.
Guess weāll know in a month
Eh, think this is the level of quality that weāre going to get. Hope Iām wrong though.
And itās not like he just let them walk. They all wanted to be gone (and most have been āgoneā for awhile).
Everyone has a price.
I hold these two thoughts at the same time: Dai Dai is a good player and Iād be happy if he stayed, but we donāt need him and Iām not devastated he left.
Heās good at a few things (hitting the open three, freeing himself for a pretty consistent midrange jumper), and those skills are always welcome, but theyāre limited. Heās more valuable on a good team thatās lacking that specific type of contribution. For us, he might make us a better team (and Iām not convinced he would: I think we could wind up with a replacement who either does more or does it better), but heās not going to dramatically change the trajectory of the season. And in any case Iād rather see his minutes go to Gertrude or Mallory, in whatās essentially a rebuilding year.
If weāre actually spending 7-8 million dollars it shouldnāt be a rebuilding year.
This is why itās silly to throw those numbers out there by the administration. I get that it has PR value. But man it puts expectations in placeā¦and itās all pie in the sky anyway. If they can attract guys worth spending that on, then there would be more available. Same everywhere.
Itās not silly at all. You arenāt thinking like an administrator/bureaucrat. The expectations are the coachās problem. The resources are there. Administrative asses covered.
Then spend the damn money and ask for more.
I thought athletes tended to be on a 4 year track if not 3 years with the summer school options? Guy was here for 3 years as a player and a full year on the staff while in school. Does he still need another year to graduate? (Not judging, just clarifying.)
This feel like setting appropriate expectations. You telling us to temper expectations on what our portal haul will look like compared to what some may expect? Or just saying only a handful of schools will be able to spend that much based on who they can get to spend it on?
He left early during his 2nd semester junior year, so not sure he finished anything then. And then I donāt know that heās taking a full class load. At earliest, maybe graduate this summer, but I donāt know.
Iām saying the same thing Iāve always said. Money shouldnāt have anything to do with expectations. Everybody has it. We had it before. Having an X Million dollar payroll is a lot more about being able to attract players worth that amount than having it, because many teams do. Thatās all.
For those who expect a more productive player than what Ames would have been for us next year - you are likely to be disappointed.
He averaged 15 points per game over his last 9 games on really good shooting % and was super efficient.
And that was at a glacial pace - I seriously doubt we get someone who will do better than that next year. But we do need an athletic dude who can run offenseā¦
What are your reasonable expectations HGN?
I remain confused why we canāt offer someone like IMac $3 million to stay. Maybe thatās what Louisville or Tennessee are offering but I thought he was in the 1.5-2mil range. An extra million+ seems like an easy decision
Speak for yourself lol. $3M does not seem like a reasonable decision whatsoever.
Sorry shouldāve said with the knowledge that they can apparently get more money (from donors I guess?) if they spend the first $7-8mil
Ah, I hear ya
